Which candidates out there run a good soft zone 3-4 defense that can trade field goals for touchdowns.

Chizik is a master at this.

"Bend but don't break" is an awful defensive strategy, IMO.

It's really not a defensive strategy. It's what you do when you can't recruit a shutdown defense. It's making lemonade out of lemons. Problem is you come to believe that is your ceiling.

Monte Kiffen's Tampa 2 was a great example.

Wisconsin plays that style, I think.

So did ND a few years ago. That DC is now the UConn coach.

Dave Aranda, DC at Wisconsin, has been thrown out as the dream DC at Oregon on several thread. This is good. However, why the hell would he make a lateral move to Oregon? This is funny. The first two names are Chizik and Aranda and that is what is being thrown out on Oregon threads that are serious.

Bend but don't break is a deep seeded religious belief among Oregon fans. If Aranda became DC at Oregon, it would be a home run hire among our fanbase.

I guess it's better than a delusional fanbase.

Tom Bradley out at UCLA. Got frustrating at times when he was at PSU, but his defenses never seemed to break.

Chizik used to utilize small, but fast D players. Not sure what he does at UNC, but he could fit O's system.

Aranda is a good DC and would probably be a really good fit at Oregon. I think he'll get a HC job soon at a small school, but maybe he'd want to get back to the west coast?

Monte Kiffen's defense sucked at USC though. It was awful.
