Lol at questioning the guy whose last 3 DCs he's hired were very successful DCs and are now P5 HCs

Maybe because he's a great LB coach and his defenses performed high end for low end talent in the SEC?

its been answered ITT.

Jones has 3-4 good games as a DC, along with 6-7 bad ones.

White has 3 years of solid games to evaluate.

From a big picture stand point

why would Kelly pick White over Jones...? More SEC experience?

The problem is fans tend to like familiarity. Today, Jones is still one of us so we like him and see his potential. But think of the hire this way... if any other SEC coach was making this hire, who would they choose? The answer would likely be White in almost every case. I can't think of a single category that Jones would beat White in (experience, potential, etc).

We (myself included) see the best in our coaches until they completely screw up. We like Jones b/c of those last few games. If you remove those purple-colored glasses, you'll see that Jones had a few good games, but is not a proven DC. BK wasn't hired to keep O's staff around. In fact, the more purging he does, the better imo. It's hard for BK to come in and change the culture of the program if he's doing it with the same staff that went 6-6 this year. We love Corey Raymond and Kevin Faulk b/c they are Tigers. But are they really the best coaches for the job? Only BK knows b/c it's his vision that he has to implement. We have to trust the same for the DC hire

Don't worry most of people posting just want to bash and trash. While I have never been a head coach I would imagine it would be like any other CEO of any other company.

1.) Evaluate the performance- yes Jones has less games to go by than White. And who knows what the dynamics were for the first several games before the defense finally clicked. Was O meddling? Was jones being held back or did it take him that long to realize what to do., no one knows except for the people in that building. Jones has been coaching for a while, just not in the DC role. So while there may be limited DC experience you can look at his body of work as a whole.

2.) Interview- I am sure CBK has talked with jones and interviewed him. Maybe they don't share the same vision or there are somethings CBK thinks differently on. I believe this is the biggest factor. If he doesn't think like the CBK or is not on the same page of what direction the program needs to go then its asking for disaster.

like many have said CBK has been around a long time and has been successful he is not going to change his style or way of thinking to try accommodate another coach. CBK may have targeted white due to his performance and being familiar with SEC offenses for more than 1 season, or maybe he got an inside scoop from someone that White could be obtained and then did his research and liked what he seen and decided to try and interview him. Thats my 2 cents.

Daronte did a very good job this past year. His defense improved throughout the season as they became more familiar with the scheme, and it was outright dominant by the end of the year.

That doesn't mean, though, that you don't do your due diligence as the new head coach and interview as many reasonable candidates as you can to make sure you have the right guy in place. If you keep Daronte, so be it. If you feel that you can upgrade that position on your staff, then you do. It's as easy as that. Brian Kelly's call to make.
