I've seen chatter online about Muschamp to SC.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

A writer posted that he believed USC could get him if they promised him he could be the Head Coach in Waiting. Some USC fans on a message board convinced themselves that that meant they were getting him and started blowing up twitter and 247 with it.

It has grown so big now they are going to pay him 4 million a year to be DC. For some reason the media hasn't caught on to it even though it almost a done deal.

This.

Additional NCAA recruiting restrictions come with that title and Will of all people should know all about that based on his HCIW stint at Texas.

Muschamp signed two 5*'s and six 4*'s his last HCIW year at Texas.

If the rules about recruiting matter so much to HC and HCIW, why did he recruit so well and why do other HC's like Saban recruit so well?

This is a new approach.

90% of the Muschamp/SCAR chatter is on this board.

Nah, this board has about 5% of it. Their boards have gone full blown retard over it - even with their most reputable reporters still saying "We're hearing it's unlikely".

Count me as one of the Auburn posters who wouldn't be surprised if he did end up at Carolina. A lot of writers on Auburn sites just pump sunshine about everything, and a lot of posters are still dumb enough or naïve enough to believe everything they say. I have learned to be cautious about these things

No. If you think its bad here then you should visit USC's 247 site or cockytalk.

Those were 2010 recruits listed and the rules weren't implemented until 2010-2011 recruiting year.

I don't think it's impossible, I just haven't seen a single report or any other anecdotal evidence indicating it is a possibility.

It's not a bad gig, there are just better openings.

One guy said that, and I don't even know who that guy is on a national scale.

JC Shurburtt said this late last night (a whole lot of nothing and a bunch of what we already knew - signs pointing to AU):

quote:

-Auburn feels very good about its chances to land Will Muschamp. Folks on both sides believe it's a strong possibility that he ends up back on the plains.

-I confirmed that Muschamp and his wife liked living in Auburn when they were there and would not mind moving back.

-Sources cautioned it was "not done" but that Auburn was running in the top spot for Muschamp's services.

-His salary could be $2 million plus at Auburn, which is prepared to make him the highest paid coordinator in college football by a mile.

-I have heard Muschamp and his family have a strong preference to remain in the South.

***It is important to note everything above is predicated on each school offering more or less the same deal, which is come take our money and hire your staff and run our defense for us***

South Carolina in that scenario (DC job only) would be a distant fourth behind Auburn, NFL and Texas A&M.

The reason outside of money, familiarity and a more successful program at AU (more prestige to set him up for the next head coaching gig)- the concern that it could be a one-and-done thing and then Spurrier hits the beach and Muschamp moves again.

But...

This notion of a Head Coach In-Waiting tag could change things dramatically. This means that it does not matter if it is a one-year deal or not. One year just means Muschamp is a head coach in the SEC after one season and then he's back.

So the key here is this- regardless if it is spoken, unspoken or how they word or phrase it- is some sort of transition plan involving Will Muschamp replacing Steve Spurrier, whenever that may be.

We have not been able to have anyone give us a straight answer on if a HCIW title (or at least some sort of agreement) was going to be part of the deal. Some say yes, some say no. The people who would definitely know are not talking now and one of them is heading to the Dominican Republic tonight on a plane.

In conclusion...

-If the Gamecocks put a HCIW offer on the table, they are likely to get Muschamp.

-If not, he will go to Auburn (most likely) or the NFL or could even take a year off.

The key lies in what exactly the Gamecocks are offering. That's a huge deal because you are talking about hiring a head coach essentially.

We should know more in the coming days or at least by next week.

Stay tuned.

And Tony Morrell said this this morning:

quote:

Unless some normally well informed sources are out of the loop, I don't think last night's "done" post is accurate. I will continue looking into it today though.

On whether or not the HCIW tag would be offered to WM:

quote:

I don't know if it's likely. A very good source I spoke with last night didn't think it was.

I still don't get why South Carolina fans would want him to be the next head coach.

That's a good spot for Muschamp. Spurrier won't be there that long. Gives Muschamp a year or 2 to figure out his next move.
