I find it utterly amazing how so many people are so narrowed minded regarding the coaching search.

Everyone should want the BEST option that we can get. If that is Coach O then so be it. If it is Jimbo then good. Herman, Fleck, or Kelly........or whoever. It should be the best damn coach that we can get period. And the only way to can determine who the best option is through research and interviews... Wikipedia alone will not do it.

I am curious based on the "limited" info that people have, who would bet their job on the success of their top/only choice? That is basically what Joe is doing. He screws this thing up and it may just cost him his job.

I sure the hell hope he is doing all the research and background checking now so he can narrow that list to his top 5 or so candidates.

these two statements are diametrically opposed

I think everyone is hoping this is a diligent well thought out search.

Thats why most don't want O to just be named HC because of this season.
Thats a knee jerk reaction.

You still have to let the season play out first. Everyone is jumping the gun in October. If you can get a Herman or Jimbo then great. If O wins out then great. Everything else in between is just kosher.

Exactly. Coach O shouldn't be a shoe in just because he has a good record this season. If he is the choice it needs to be because he is the best option..... Period!

In my opinion only.... there are only 3 or 4 coaches who if were interested you would hire on the spot. Saban, Meyer, Harbaugh, and maybe Dabo. Other than that, I wouldn't say anyone should be the pick over anyone else until after research and interviews were done.

I just hope to hell we can trust the people making the decision is not based on emotion bias.

The funny thing about the coaching search is everyone is going to skew data to who their "pet cat" is. The same people that say O needs to go somewhere else and prove he can be successful as a HC at another power conference or prove he can have "sustained" success are the same ones who want Herman (1 1/2 seasons as a coach in the American conference) or Fleck who is the HC of Western Michigan. I know everyone wants the new wiz kid, splash hire, but are we ready to play roulette with the program. If you want a stable hire that fits the criteria that everyone claims they want then Jimbo stands as the most logical choice. Success at mid level conferences are a far cry from proving you can run the gauntlet of the SEC West where basically every team has aspirations of a national championship.

I wish I could upvote this 1000 times. I don't get the people that think it's Herman or bust. I have not been excited with him so far. He seems too much the "flavor of the month".
