Hat tip to fargobison. Claeys is now out:
LINK

I saw this on Michigan State's 247 site. Unfortunately, I can't copy links from there for some reason. I've always thought Minnesota should be able to make an occasional run in the west.

quote:

Minnesota intends to decide this week whether to retain embattled coach Tracy Claeys, and industry sources have told 247Sports that they can see the school going in either direction.

Should Minnesota opt to make a change, multiple sources are keeping an eye on Western Michigan’s P.J. Fleck as a lead candidate. Fleck’s undefeated Broncos play Wisconsin later Monday in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl.

Fleck agreed in principle to an extension to remain at WMU, but a source said that the contract has not been finalized.

And a source told us that, as of Sunday evening, Minnesota AD Mark Coyle had not reached out to Fleck. But another source indicated that there is mutual interest.

Claeys is kind of a dufus. The end of the Michigan game last year was atrocious.

With UM, OSU, and PSU all returning back to prominence Fleck would be wise to avoid any middling job in the Big 10.

That would be stupid. Claeys has done an impressive job with what he has to work with.

Not too late to get rid of O and make a real hire like Fleck

I kind of agree, but I do think there is a ray of hope to at least do well in the west. And while this is not historically the case, Minnesota just feels like a better job than a school like Purdue being in a cool city with a relatively new stadium.

Fleck would be a good fit for the Gophers, but is Claeys "embattled" just because of fallout from the rape case?

If they don't believe Claeys can get them competing for B1G titles and Fleck can, more power to them, but I think this was only Minnesota's second 9-win season in the poll era and they really didn't have any bad losses. Seems like odd timing for this move.

I think Minn could be a sleeping giant. They have a great new stadium and money to spend on football.

If Wisconsin can do what they do, then so can Minn.

this would be a fantastic hire IMO

Minnesota is in the Big Ten West. Easier division.

I think that is way too big of a risk for Fleck to go to Minnesota. He can get much better jobs if he waits a year. Places like A&M, Tennessee, and Notre Dame could be open at the end of 2017.

They'll probably hire Fleck but in my opinion they would be better off with Bohl.

You can't be supportive publicly of players doing a gang-bang on a girl who claims it was not-consensual.
