Great Question

Having no knowledge of the hire, I'm really digging to find the story behind hiring Les.

Les was a great hire. History will be kind to him. He didn't change offensive philosophy and the relationship ran its course. The next coach needs to commit to a more dynamic offense.

Miles' records at OK before hired by Skip: 4-7, 8-5, 9-4, 7-5. Gundy would be Miles 2.0 from OKS.

Gundys record is head and shoulders above Miles! Gundy didn't take over a National Championship team. He had Oklahoma State on the brink of a National Championship without any help from Nick Saban.

Because at the time LSU used was trying to do two things.

Find a coach on the cheap (skip bertman's policy) and find someone who came close to fitting the criteria we used when hiring Saban. And that meant a coach having moderate to good success at a school playing second fiddle in their own state to the bigger school. Les' resume fit that description. Problem was, he clearly wasn't as detailed or meticulous as Saban.

Les was a great hire. He just didn't make the adjustment to a an offense that was less run dependent. He ran his course, but he was a great hire.

How in the hell did this qualify Les for LSU?

Those wins over GREAT OU teams really helped his cause there

Can you imagine how pissed Okie State fans would be if LSU steals another coach from them?

they were thrilled the last time lsu took their coach. gundy is a superior coach, so they wouldn't be happy this time around.

I would love that hire, but it won't happen.

He's made the offseason a sport of telling other schools no. If you read up, he's turned down Texas, Florida, Tennessee, and Arky in the past.

He'll stay at his alma mater.

Might have something to do with the fact that the school had had one winning season in the 12 years prior to miles coaching there and that he beat their chief rival (Oklahoma) in his first 2 years (Oklahoma ranked 3&4 respectively those years).

It took Gundy 7 years to finally beat Oklahoma. Imagine the howling if our new coach loses 6 straight to Bama, 4 by 20 points or more.
