Schumann doesn’t want a CB lateral move. He will get his shot as HC at Bama when this fails.

That’s the hire they should’ve made imo. Could’ve kept a lot of what you had intact, get a young fresh injection from an alum, recruit like crazy and figure the rest out later. You don’t even have to drop a 100 mil for him. I get there’s an ego thing about getting a big name/established guy but if it’s good enough for Georgia, I think Bama can live with going that route when it aligns like this.

As an analyst, sure. Otherwise, no.

That has to be a really tough pill to swallow. Boss move by Kirby, but damn. Tough for Will.

I doubt it. I'm sure he's still getting paid. When this whole "shadow staff"/analysts thing either began or was 1st actually talked about a decade or so ago, it seemed to be a bunch of GAs or retired coaches satisfied with making $25k/year. But with all the overqualified guys as analysts, most of whom seem strangely happy to move from an on-field position to off and back relatively regularly, sometimes year to year, I doubt they're bouncing back and forth from making $600k+ to $30k. I think the money has drastically increased for the top analysts. I'm not sure how they're getting paid, where the money is actually coming from, but guys like Muschamp are still getting paid. Especially at Georgia.

I was watching an episode Snaps with Aaron Murray about a month ago, and I can't remember what they were talking about--maybe it was the possibility of Saban retiring and Kirby taking the Bama gig or a hypothetical of him maybe wanting to scratch the NFL itch one day, whatever--and Murray was talking about the setup Kirby had in place there. He said besides just having one the best on-field staffs I the country, you would not believe how many WAY overqualified UGA alums were in Athens as analysts or some other off-field roles contributing to the program. Said the overall defensive brain power in that building was just insane.

I'm sure those dudes have a loyalty to the alma mater and Athens is a great place to raise a family/retire, but these dudes still have too much earning power in their careers to be doing this for peanuts. I bet their top off-field guys are making as much as most schools' on-field guys.

Muschamp wants to visit Nashville a few weekends to watch his younger son who signed to play QB at Vandy.

Will wanted this, he like a lot of coaches are getting worn down by the grind that the job of cfb coach has become.
