Understand we played Mizzou not Bama last night, but my gut tells me this team will finish in the top 10 (at least) and the administration will be universally vindicated for cutting Miles loose mid-season.

Has a program every fired a coach mid-season and subsquently finish the season in the top 10? How does this factor into a coaches decision to go to Baton Rouge?

If you end up in the top 10, you already have your coach.

He beat a mediocre mizzou team and everyone is ready to just give him the job. God help us.

Yeah I'd be surprised by anything better than 8-4. There's a lot of potential losses on the schedule although the conference as a whole does seem down.

Guess that is why the game is played. Not saying Orgeron is the long term answer, but he will have this team play up to it's potential.

I'm still curious, can anyone remember a school firing a coach mid-season and finishing ranked in the top 10? Google isn't helping.

Im pretty sure the practice of firing a coach during the season is pretty new.

Like Ron Zook was the start of that

And even fewer were fired early enough for things to be turned around. And even fewer were at a program that had any talent to be ranked even.

Probably never

If Coach O leads this team back into the Top 10 then he should be the coach next year. In order to get back in the top 10 we would basically have to go 7-1 and most likely 8-0 and be in the SEC Championship game. If he pulls that off we won't be looking for a coach and shouldn't be.

So no credit for doing to a mediocre team what they're supposed to do instead of pulling back and letting them back in the game?

How about going one game at a time and see what happens instead of being a douche meltdown going on 12 hours now

I'm not going to say we couldn't. But having two losses this early in the season will pretty much eliminate your chances of ending up in the top 10, unless ypu make it to the SEC Championship game, which for us means running the table. Can it be done? We have the talent. We have the talent performing, but when it comes to Bama. And Ole Miss, and likely aTm, the edge will be coaching. What do we really have there? We'll have a better idea after a tougher(than Mizzou) Florida team.
