Herman. There's a reason so many UT fans are freaking out that LSU is in the mix. This guy's ceiling is Saban-like. It's a gut feeling, but if we land Herman, Saban's trend starts to move downward.

We're at a crossroads in the program and the right/wrong hire could make or break us for the next 10 years. We could end up like USCw or Florida if the wrong hire is made. Or, we could end up like Ohio State with a boost in the program and a Natty to boot.

I don't think fans who have O as their preferred choice truly understand what is at stake here. As a fan base, we've been pretty spoiled the last 15 years or so. We had Saban, won a natty, then had Miles, won a natty and were a perennial top 10 team. Yea, the last 3 years have been rough, but they certainly haven't been Florida in the post Meyer age, or Texas in the post Brown age, or USCw in the post Carrol age.

This is way too big of a moment to waste on anything less than a homerun hire. Herman gives you that for sure. Jimbo is a close second. O might be a stand-up double...

How would you feel if we release coach O and he goes to another FBS school and wins a championship? See I can do unlikely hypotheticals too.

Considering no other schools are lining up to hire him, I'll take the chance.

He would stay longer because he would lose more games. Probably just as many as Miles. Jimbo can't beat Saban.

They played head to head FSU defeated Saban and Bama. Look it up.

Also, anything else you might add will be wrong as well. Go back to bed.

On a short leash. 2 year contract with no buyout short leash. If he tanks we reopen the coaching search without worrying about a buyout.

You do realize both sides have to agree to a contract, right?

My reasons for liking O are based more so on me WANTING him to be a great coach.

This is me also. He is doing everything right so far. He is managing this time instead of dictating. There are some really good coaches on staff and he seems to let them do their job.

If not O, Jimbo would be my next choice. He has been tested by adversity. I am not sold on Hermann. I am not sure if he could handle the constant scrutiny.

This is true, but if he turns out to be a great coach, that means LSU is finishing the season strong. Maybe 1 loss. After taking over like he has, that would mean he has turned this season around.

I just don't get all the concern of Herman going to the NFL. Sure, he may eventually. But in a nearly 20 year coaching career, he's never been a pro coach.

Looking at the most recent college guys to go to the pros, only Chip Kelly had no NFL experience before becoming an NFL HC.

Harbaugh, Saban, Carroll, and Spurrier all had pro coaching experience prior to becoming a college head coach, all in the first 10-15 years of the career.

Maybe Herman goes the Kelly route, but thats something a school worries about when it happens. Can't let that keep you from hiring the best Foch available.

It is a top 5 job, but it all depends on who you ask. Its not for everyone. You have to fact in the state of the SEC west right now.. You have Bama who dominates the west and you also have TA&M, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Auburn, which are not "gimme wins". The only thing close to a "gimme win" in the west is Miss St.. And LSU would have lost to them this year if they didn't fumble. For coaches who want a challenge it is perfect, but for a coach who might not want to risk success then it is not the best job.

Last time FSU and Bama played was 2007, Bobby Bowden was the coach, and FSU vacated the 7 wins they had that year. The time before was in the 70s, so when, exactly, did a Jimbo led FSU beat a Saban led Alabama?
