We don't know what Herman is thinking, but he is likely seriously considering both Texas and LSU as any rational "hot commodity" coach that's being pursued by two major programs would.

With Texas, he has to see how badly the program has been the past few years and how little of a leash they gave Charlie Strong to right the wrongs of the Mack Brown era. Meanwhile, the cupboard is generally bare from a talent perspective and other Texas programs have been pulling the talent that Texas used to get. Why risk jumping ship and getting canned by Texas when things don't turn around immediately?

With LSU, he has to see how long of a leash Les Miles got with such a pathetic offense. If I'm Herman and job security is of any concern, I look at LSU and think I'll have plenty of time to build a dynasty (not to mention my college roommate may be my Defensive Coordinator). The talent in Louisiana certainly helps too. He has the ability to truly make a name for himself in matching wits with Saban and as one of this generation's brightest up and coming coaches.

We'll see soon.

I agree. I think Texas has issues beyond just on the field stuff.

He also has to see that Bama is not in Texas's division. I agree on your other points though.

Cupboard is not bare at UT. Freshman QB is good and a freshman RB in Heisman consideration, although a very long shot.

you have no idea what he is "likely seriously considering"

some of you are getting delusional with this herman talk. there is nothing to indicate we are even in the running for herman

Sometimes it comes down to where you and your family want to live. Sorry to play devil's advocate, but that stuff matters. I'm sure he's confident enough in his abilities to succeed in any situation.

Thought about this..

You have articulated my thoughts in a more compelling fashion.

Well done and I definitely agree...

Coaches don't think about stuff like that. Coaches are like all players and teenagers. Reality be damned.

I want to believe sooooo bad! It has to be him or Fisher. It's the only way this whole mess makes any sense at all. You don't fire Miles mid-season and not make a big splash. It just wouldn't make sense any other way. If you're not sure who you can get, you wait till seasons end and hope and pray a big name is willing to accept. If you KNOW you can get a big name, you shite can the coach mid season and start making contact.

Yeah...well..every coach that wants to be the best has to play him at some point.

And he knows he can beat him. So there's that.

114-34 got him a long leash. He earned the long leash.

Herman isn't going to take a job and hope he doesn't fail there, all coaches are obviously going to think they're going to turn the new program around. It could be as simple as he just likes UT better. Things are in place to make a run quicker here but the allure of UT may be too big of a draw to him.

Yes he knows he can scheme against the best D's around including Bama. Especially with talent.

He can also afford a loss in the SEC.

LSU is much more built to win now.

They even recruit Texas with the best of them!

I will add that if he goes to Texas he could recruit Texas. If he comes to Lsu he can recruit La AND Tx.

Not to mention he outschemed Saban in the 2015 Sugar Bowl when he was at Ohio State.

For a guy who's been described as uber competitive and an adrenaline junkie, facing Bama every season may make LSU MORE attractive, not less.

Well, if he wants to face the top coaches and talent, especially defensive talent, then goes with LSU and the SEC. However, given his history with Texas...

If his wife has any say, it will be Texas. I'm not sure a lot of you have ever been to Austin. As much as we all may love Baton Rouge(mainly due to the school we've rooted for our whole lives being located there), it just can't compete with Austin in terms of quality of life. For someone that already is professionally rooted in Texas, it's a no-brainer.

Also Mac Brown had a pretty long leash himself(though I believe both he and Miles earned every bit of theirs).

What? Yeah he saw Les have the best regular season in LSU history and still get fired mid season. Long leash, yeah right.

I dont see why a confident coach would care about the perceived length of a leash. If I think I'm a good coach, I believe I'm going to go to any big school with resources and succeed. I don't want a coach who is worried about a slow start.
