Tom Herman.

This is reality. 0 would fizzle in a couple years and we would be doing it all again. Nobody is afraid of orgeron long term.

Jimbo is a Miles of a different color. He can develop qbs. He also routinely shits the bed against inferior opponents and has had trouble with DCs. He's also past his prime

None of the other guys out there would make a splash at all.

Herman is numero uno and LSU will regret every day passing on him for the next 20 years.

Herman is my #1 choice as well, but uh...if you're going to hammer Fisher on this, you gotta do the same for Herman after this season

SMU and Navy are superior opponents.

I'm not against Herman. However, making stupid statements about one coach and ignoring them on another has to be called out.

I'm a big Herman fan myself but this is a little overboard.

The talent at smu and navy isn't really inferior to UH. UH had a team of 2 and 3 star talent. Jimbo has mostly 4 star and a couple 5 star.

oh dear lord, just stop. Houston Has better talent than SMU and Navy. so all three stars are the same? So SMU's three star player is equal to Alabama's three star player.

He has better offensive numbers than Houston in a harder conference with a FR QB

Herman hasn't lost to inferior talent? Jimbo is 51. How is he past his prime?

Herman may be the next Meyer or Saban. But honestly we don't know. The same people that say they want a coach that has shown sustainable success and want someone who can win in a power 5 conference want guys like Herman and Fleck. This is what's frustrating. It's the inconsistency of arguments for or against candidates and the elevation of everyone's pet cat to cult status.

I've praised O for what he's done so far and not who he beat, but how he beat them. I've brought up the changes and statements from within his own staff. That doesn't mean I think he should be HC or he should be hired because he's "one of us or speaks with a Cajun accent". My top choice is Jimbo because he checks basically every box in what would work here. His record at a high level of competition basically dwarfs every other candidate. That being said he has weaknesses as well. Just be honest and lay out the pros and cons and stop politicking for "your candidate" or trashing the other guy. That way, if the new HC isn't the one you wanted you won't find yourself waiting for their first mistake to pounce and start all the "I told you so" threads.

And for the record I've caught myself doing it to so I'm taking a step back and trying to be more objective.

This problem is solved if he comes in and retains Aranda, which is a must for any future coach.

I also agree that Herman at LSU scares the shite out of every other coach in the west, including Saban.

Overused word, along with "scared". No hire is going to make people "afraid" or "scared" or put "fear" in them.

There are hires that would get people's attention and gain their respect, but I doubt any LSU fan would say he/she felt "fear" when Bama hired Saban. By that same token, no other SEC West fan is going to "fear" any hire at any other SEC West school.

Had Herman not dropped two games this year, I might have viewed it like Meyer coming to Florida in 2005. Herman seems to have lost that trajectory. At least at this point. It's all still unknown.

Even as hot of a name as Meyer was in 2004/2005, no one could have predicted his success at UF. Or his eventual flame out after stated success. But we had four seasons at Bowling Green and Utah to judge him on. We have half that for Herman, with some head scratching losses in year two. Time will tell.

Does not compute.

If Saban retires tomorrow. Bama will be calling Dabo and then Jimbo. I like Herman as well, but Jimbo would be great too.

I very highly doubt that.

FWIW, I am not anti Herman or pro Orgeron.
