Look I'm all about school pride, and the coach knowing the culture etc..........
BUT,
If LSU ever spews this bullshite about an "LSU man" over the best head coach available then please feel free to riot.....
Michigan Man............ridiculous. You want the best guy not the "most Michigan"

Michigan Man............
LSU seems to be doing pretty well with coaches with ties to the state of Michigan.

I do think the program has at least suffered due to its own arrogance. That's not a knock on Brady Hoke at all, but this coaching search was a complete joke.

No doubt but we didn't use that as a principle key in our coaching search.
Get my point.

Do you even know the origins of the saying?
Posted on 1/11/11 at 3:29 pm to L S Usetheforce
Does LSU have anyone who is remotely considered an LSU Man and is qualified to lead an SEC program? Maybe Terry Robiskie?
Anybody else?
Anybody else?

Sure the basics..........I couldn't write a book about it........
Still doesn't make the UM program look like dumbasses.........
There are 20 coaches better than Hoke right now that probably accept that job........and I like Hoke.

Agree. How many years did the Gumps waste trying to find a coach with a connection to the Bear?

I think you hit the nail on the head with this statement.

Arrogance can easily destroy logical thinking.

The chances of that are pretty low.
One of the few "LSU men" who ever came back to coach at the program was Jerry Stovall and he was a desperation hire after Bo Rein's plane crash.

JMO: Michigan obviously didn't hire a "Michigan Man" last time, and it backfired big time. They didn't need a MM then (and they don't now). The problem was, they didn't just hire a non-MM, they hired a guy who was basically the exact opposite of a MM. He didn't understand (or care for) Michigan's traditions, and his style of football was basically the exact OPPOSITE of what had built Michigan to one of college football's elite.
Coaches like Tressel, Saban, Pelini, and many more (not saying any of those guys would take the job, just giving examples of "non-Michigan men") would have been just fine, because they play a physical, "Michigan" style of football and would value their traditions. Michigan's problem wasn't that they didn't hire a MM, it's that they hired a man that was so far away from "typical" Michigan Men. But because a non-MM failed, now Michigan thinks they need one or they can't win. They're afraid that they can't win if they don't have one, due to RR, when in reality, they just need a great coach who understands their traditions and is willing to play typical Michigan style (i.e. hard nosed, punch you in the mouth) football.
Heck, Bo (arguably the starter of the "Michigan Man" craze) was anything BUT a MM (before he took the job). He was from Ohio, played for Miami (OH) and was an assistant at Ohio State. But his style was conducive to winning at Michigan, he cared about (and helped start his own) Michigan traditions, and it worked.
ETA: And if they turned down Patterson (like some rumors said) for Hoke, they're nuts.

If a Southern school only hired their own people, people would cry "racism" and "Good ol' boy network!"
Ask Auburn when they didn't hire Turner Gill for some former Auburn DC that the media didn't think was "worthy."
But it happens in Michigan, and it's a "Michigan Man."
It makes me want to effin' PUKE

Excessive use of the term "Michigan Man"

Not as excessive as Michigan uses it.
ETA: I edited it to "MM" to make it a little better, haha.

What is going to be epic is when Bama has a few bad seasons and they realize he's not the re-incarnation of Bear Bryant.

the whole "michigan man" thing is just their way of stroking it.
