But don't tell me the wheels fell off the offense when he's an offensive minded coach and involved heavily with the O. The defense cost them games, and he won't be calling the defense. That's Hoke's fault.

Well, I went back and looked at the scores and stats and I'll have to say that it appears you are correct. He was able to put up very big numbers. When I get some more time I'd like to check out his recruiting abilities and talent that he's putting in the NFL... I'd be interested in seeing how he stacked up with some of the other guys...

In all honestly he's not a great recruiter but another positive is he had a true freshman qb and throw for 2000 yards and 19 tds in 7 games.

What makes you say he isn't a great recruiter?

We've always had great recruiters. Maybe it's time we had some guys who could develop offensive talent and call plays.

Enos isn't much different and I rather a coach who doesn't have excuses

And one whose offense doesn't regress as the season goes on

Really want a new direction

Nothing to say he's not a good recruiter bc it's very hard to recruit at Oregon even with the Nike deals bc no talent base. But if he was great I think he could have had better classes as HC or at least landed some big names as primary recruiter while he was OC

Completely agree and I'm not sold that he's a bad recruiter. LSU will get talent

In you opinion though, is Helfrich a HOME RUN hire?

Who the hell cares if he can recruit. That's what Joe hired CEO for, right?

We need an OC who can develop a QB and coach up an offense. We will have the talent there. We always have.

Idk people have different definitions of home run. But from what's realistically available I'd say he's a top 3 candidate at worst

I personally like Sarkisian as the OC... but dam... I don't want LSU to get in a bind if he's getting bourbon faced on shite street... with Aranda in place, I really believe this OC hire could get LSU back in the playoffs... if Lane is the guy, then great... I'm down... I just find him to be a bit of a bi*ch if he makes a lateral move to LSU... who does that? Maybe I'm wrong...

My next option at realistic guys if it's not Oeaux's old USC click would be Canada, but I'm not sure he's as realistic as Sterlin Gilbert. Needs a job. Didn't actually get fired. Did his job in a terrible situation... recruits Texas... I feel like he'd do well with LSU... After that, I'd take Helfrich if in fact he's reaching out to us and wants to be here.

John Chavis, Kevin Steele, Brick Haley, John Thompson, Jimbo Fisher, etc.

Coaches make lateral moves all the time for any number of reasons. Parallel moves aren't uncommon--especially among coordinators, who are well known to move every 2-3 years.

Dan Enos has a non-compete clause as an OC within the SEC. I wish folks would quit plastering his name around with potential OC hires. He can not come to LSU as an OC. The only way he could come to LSU would be as a HC...which coincidentally, he did get an interview.

That's the funny part about all of this. Everyone is talking about the 2 targets we had and O being the fall back....we actually did speak to several different coaches.

Mark Helfrich - I don't consider this guy to be elite. Chip called the plays. When Chip left, they did well at first, but I believe the success is credited to the diamond in the rough coach, Scott Frost. Without Chip and Frost, the wheels fell off. Melt on me if you want... just telling the truth.

oregon was 18th in the nation in total offense per game this year...

you may be honest in your opinion, but you aren't telling the truth. that would include facts, which you seem short on.

this^^^. need to run a proper football program, not a used car lot. it's nice to have all the snake oil salesmen around, but it can be a bit much sometimes.

Guys like Chavis, Steele, Brick, and Thompson are career assistants with little or no desire to be a head coach.... Lane Kiffin and Lincoln Riley are in great situations right now and having great success that will lead to interviews for Head Coach... they add risk to that by jumping ship to LSU under an unproven head coach...

Riley isn't going anywhere this year

Kiffin apparently is no longer wanted at Bama, so he is on his way out it appears.

Aranda came to work for Les Miles even though anyone could see that our offense was atrocious and he knew Miles was on the hot seat.

A strong coordinator on the come up who is confident in his abilities will make a move to benefit his career.

Kiffin is under the shadow of Saban and not getting much credit for what he's doing there. Just another in a line of successful OC's at Bama and "winning with Saban talent."

Turn around a pathetic LSU offense and do it outside the shadow of Saban and it adds credibility.

Clearly this year even 2nd and 3rd tier programs aren't hiring Kiffin as a HC based on what he's doing at Bama and now it looks like they're sending him packing.

This is what I've always thought. Seems like he'd get a lot more autonomy here under his friend and probably get a raise. For better or worse I think the offense would reflect what he wants to do more.
