I bet he gets a pay raise and not a pay cut.

Cooper as a DC?

His philosophy is patterned after Lou Tepper's read and react.

I know some you guys love him as a DB coach but he was horrible as a DC. Sure you can say it was b/c he was at State but what Ellis Johnson did at State after RC left says enough. Look what Cooper did to Louisville's program? Spurrier even threw him under the bus a few times.

I know LSU love him b/c of the play of your CB's but that's about the only place I'd let him coach. There's a reason he's gone from d-1 HC, d-II HC, to position coach, to DC, back to position coach.

Great point! I think he is in line for another bonus and will take especially in light of his past history of being nothing better than a Secondary Coach. This guy has a real chance with LSU to reestablish some real coaching creditably, before leaving for what could be a 1yr or 2 job depending on the teams success on the field. I think he take the security of LSU success!

les needs to donate all of his raise to go to frank and cooper evenly. Give the fat boys a bump too.

Cooper as a DC?

posted this in the other Cooper thread

quote:

Ron Cooper was a defensive coordinator once at a SEC school, in 2003 at Mississippi State

He lasted a single season

His defense ranked 113th in the country in total defense, (474 yards per game), and 117th in the country in scoring defense, (over 39 points a game)

The year before, Moo State's defense ranked 24th in the country

The year after he left, they improved to 51st

Would be a great hire for the Aggies

Sumlin wants Coach Cooper to A&M for DC

Cooper has to be sure that he wouldn't be joining a "short-term" HC at A&M.

I have a feeling that things may get ugly really soon as they get pummeled these early years in the SEC.

Most of us wanted Sumlin in 2007 instead of Sherman. He was just a coordinator back then.

Count me in the "Not thrilled with Sumlin" group. To correct the Liucci comment, what was said is that Cooper would only be considered if Sumlin struck out on his first 2 choices.
