On the contrary, a functional alcoholic can function drunk and can still manage his daily functions work, skills etc.

That's my point.

BREAKING: Sources within Alabama Football say Nick Saban will name Steve Sarkisian as Offensive Coordinator. Just announced in team meeting.

Did they discuss the job over drinks?

You think he was only a functioning alcoholic when he got canned?

He wasn't a functional alcoholic, that's why he was fired.

True functional alcoholics go years undiagnosed because they are high functioning and go unnoticed.

You don't think he was drinking while climbing through the ranks? Methinks it didn't just start at USC.

Honest assessment from an LSU fan who's lived in USC country for a long long time:

upright Sark is an elite OC. Trojan homers still argue over who was more responsible for the Leinart/Bush/White offenses: Kiffin or Sark.

Most people are functional alcoholics to be honest. Most definitions of alcoholism make people on this board seem out of control. The NIAAA says 5 drinks in 2 hours is binge drinking and doing this 5 times in a month is heavy drinking.

I define 5 drinks as just enough to make me thirsty.

So I think a lot of us on here would be functional alcoholics by definition but don't drink at work, etc.

Sark wasn't not functional. He was showing up to work bombed. He's getting help now and has moved into the realm of functional. Good for him.

He'll be fired before the end of next season, imo.

He'll leave for the LSU head coaching job in 3 years after leading Bama to their 6th playoff appearance in a row.
