agree chicken Gilbert would be a great hire
I really like how he has had to adapt to new jobs quickly (Tulsa and Texas) and produced results right away.

And he has ties to the state of Texas...

Count me in. Gilbert, Canada, or Heilfrich and I am happy.

I will fricking melt if it is Kiffin though.

Doesn't Applewhite have some serious issues between him and UT?

The issue isn't between MA and UT. It is between a female ex-coach and UT. She had an affair with a student and was fired. MA had an affair with a student and was not fired. She is suing UT for the difference in treatment the two coaches received.

What worries me is Coach O has all his eggs in the Kiffin basket. He is missing out on some golden opportunities to grab a good coordinator. It wouldn't surprise me to see Saban slip in and hire Gilbert while O is waiting on his pal to come over. I dont think Kiffin will come here in the end and if he does, it will only be for a year. That will end up hurting us in recruiting. I say strike while the iron is hot and hire Gilbert. Lock up two solid coordinators for a few years and call it a day!

I am OK with Gilbert, but his offense trailed on at the end of the year, and the way he would put in his "18 Wheeler Package" in odd situations did not make sense. I personally think that Helfrich is the home-run hire.

Gilbert's biggest weakness is play calling. First year doing it and it showed, especially late in games and late in the year once it was clear that the FR QB was injured and couldn't throw a deep ball to keep Ds honest. But he did a great job with the offense this year for the most part.

I don't like the tempo part (and he used it to the detriment of the D this year) but there's no reason you couldn't run veer and shoot without it.

2011 Temple (TX) HS (OC/QB)
So, he's only 5 years removed from being a highschool coach?

Isn't that supposed to be evidence that he can't compete at the college level?

At least that's what I've been reading on tRant...

Gilbert would be at the top of my list. In terms of how long he'd stay with LSU, he's shown he can have instant success with a young quarterback w/ little talent around him, and his scheme/philosophy is what O is looking for. He checks off every box though I don't know how good of a recruiter he is to be honest. He can't be any worse than our past OC's.

I'm pretty sure that's right. It was puzzling how they used it incorrectly and then put it away for good (even when circumstances called for it). Never saw it after it was stopped late in the Tech game on 3/4 down. But it was so predictable at that point it was mind boggling.

you have no idea whether he has all his eggs in one basket, you speculate based on the information you read here

Seems like Gilbert fits the profile for what Coach O wants to do. Proven power spread OC/QB Coach (Briles coaching tree) with Texas recruiting ties. Did a really good job in first season at Texas. Available now. Fairly likely to stay around a while.

All of this. It makes so much sense that there is no possible way it will happen.

Haven't heard Gilbert's name much for LSU. I think he would be a home run hire and would like him over Kiffin. Looks like Sark too if he is relapsing and Saban is looking elsewhere.

again you have no idea where my name came from just as you have no idea about the inner workings of this coaching search. but you're right, as you pointed out in your "nuh-uh" rebuttal earlier, i don't know a thing about it either. i'm simply pointing out how moronic it is for you to be melting over something that you don't even know. i mean you literally created a scenario in your head and proceed to post angrily about it.

Gilbert is from the Art Briles coaching tree...
he has one year as a GA under Briles and one year under his former OC. to say thats from the Briles tree is a pretty serious reach.

its not a good sign if you to go this far to find a compliment.

He worked exclusively with guys who studied under Briles, or Briles himself, until this season.
