He's in his fifth season as a head coach, and this will be only his second winning season. The other winning season was with an inherited winning team.

It looks like he has Mizzou heading in the right direction, but will he sustain it?

Also, as much as I give Mizzou grief over being in the SEC, what current opening is anything better than a lateral move? A&M supposedly has the money, but is money the only measure?

His climb from a HS coach to a hot pick is pretty cool.

He’s a pretty good coach and is doing well there. There’s something about him though that makes me wonder if he’s at his level. Like he seems a little thin skinned and whiny at times which never cuts it at the big time jobs. Im sure they’d be happy to keep him a few more years.

Drink comes off as kind of goofy, but he is really good in the living room, the guy can recruit. He made home run hires with his OC and DC.

But he also has an AD who built a NIL plan to take advantage of St. Louis and KC. And they got the Missouri legislature on board with NIL.

This is a case of a perfect fit. Not sure if his success transfers to another job.

Mizzou is really solid this year. I agree he's been impressive.

This year yes, in each of the three previous seasons at Missouri he didn't have a winning record.

I'd give him a couple more years before making a determination about his coaching capabilities.

I'm not saying this because I want him to stay, but if I was TAMU I would not want him.

It took him 4 years to get going here. I'm not sure TAMU has the patience that we have, and also I don't see him leaving unless the money was THAT GOOD, and idk if it will be after that buyout. Im sure it'll be higher, but is it worth ending the momentum he finally has going..idk. Also drinks family lives near COMO, so having his brother and such close may impact that a bit.

This is probably the answer.

In his defense, he was .500 in the all SEC schedule year. We likely win 8ish game that year.

But hiring him after just this year's success is far too risky for any program. Let it be known he was told going into this year hire an OC or you're out. He was that close to being fired. The unfortunate part is this worries me that he will bolt due to that conversation.

If I was him I'd use this time to leverage a new contract.

If you can have the level of success he is having at Mizzou, then I think he is the type of guy that could take actual good programs to high levels.

I'm old enough to remember when James Franklin could coach Vanderbilt to a 9-3 season, but only got Penn State to 10-2.

Ya, what Kirby did was remarkable. Both coordinators are going to be very hard to keep much longer.

Why would he or any coach want to leave a currently good job to go to a job where they just fired a coach in the middle of the season with a winning record the day after they destroyed their opponent by over 40 points. I guess if you throw enough money at someone you can get whoever you want, but damn, good luck with that.

He’d be a fool to leave Missouri. Win 7-8 games and they think you’re the best thing ever. Why leave that for a place where you have real expectations?

Exactly. He could coach for as long as he wants at Mizzou winning 7 or 8 games most years then the occasional 10 win season every few years when the stars align.

Incorrect. He’s over $6M.

He did well at App St and has Mizzo a legimate SEC team now. Mizzo. Eli has them going to their third staight bowl game.

I think the body of work is sufficient to say the man is a good coach.
