It was just NFL jobs when he was at LSU, that was his "dream" at that time. I expect him to retire at Bama, I would not be shocked however if he took another job.

Where does this rumor come from? Message boards? Why would Texas even consider that? Its not like they have been struggling for a long time and are looking to get back like Bama was circa 2007.

I spread every rumor about Saban (full disclosure). This one has legs because I hear it on ESPN radio earlier this season, I heard Hanagriff allude to it, including the amount this week and I heard the exact number last year when it was just wild a$$ speculation.

It may be the same rumor is spreading - that's certainly possible. However, knowing the way this outfit operates - Sexton and Saban as regular as Metamucil.

How often did Saban's name come up for other college jobs? Serious question because I only remember his name for NFL jobs so I'm just wondering if it ever did.

Realistically, while he was here, college jobs didn't interest him much - LSU is a pretty good job (as is Bama, I give ya'll a lot of grief, but it's tinged with respect) - but this guy doesn't want a pretty good job. He wants history. That's why Bama was never a good fit - it will take 40 or 50 more years for ya'll to remotely forget about Bryant - another 20 just to ease off.

The angry little man from WV has an ego that cannot be underestimated. If he can't do it straight up, he'll get there by any means necessary.

He's making history at Alabama. Only his age with keep him from rivaling what Bryant accomplished. Regardless, that stuff gets overplayed. You're going to have to deal with that kind of "shadow" at Notre Dame, Penn State, Texas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, etc.

maybe its been said already, but i dont think PSU would pay what it would take to get Saban.

Aren't they most likely looking at millions in civil suits? And havent they basically been underpaying for a football staff for decades?

They cannot outbid Bama, ultimately. However, they will be desperate to protect the $50 million a year income stream, so they may offer about the most control a coach can have at an NCAA program. That's probably not going to do it, but it's food for thought.

Texas is the only school that can win a bidding war with Bama, IMO.

Didn't know arrogance was a human right that could be earned. Most of y'all are just pretentious pricks anyways. 9 to 6

I find it funny people are thinking Texas is going to force one coach to "retire" just to hire one the same age

Arrogant? Fine. But to not consider Alabama at least one of the 3 greatest programs of all time just shows ignorance.

We just think it's #1.

He became the first modern day coach to win a title at a second school. That's history....and it happened at.....wait for it....Alabama

I never said that, so take your strawman somewhere else.

Then the correct phrase would be he made history. And history is made every year.

quote:

and it happened at.....wait for it....Alabama

That particular history is about the coach not the school.

If Ok State makes the title game, Mike Gundy will make history. Les Miles could also make history this year. Some one else will make history next year. History is made every year, only Alabama fans will say something like that, but then what should we expect from a school that has 6 NCAA recognized NC, 2 of which are dubious, but claims 13.

Nick doesn't really go for that. Nick wants to coach football and go home and sometimes go out to eat at nice restaruant without having people yell "roll tide!, Geaux Tigers, or Go Green". It's that simple really. That's what appealed to him about the NFL. In Miami or Chicago he's not the biggest thing in town.

Nick wants the respect and admiration of his peers and superiors not fans so much.

Relative to the Alabama program and the SEC, no four year period has seen more wins than Alabama's current 47 wins. That's "making history" in my opinion.

Not saying it's out of the question at all as Texas is one of the biggies job wise. However, this exchange from a regular Texas poster on their scout site seems to suggest he doesn't think much of the rumor:

doreknox wrote: We keep hearing the same story in Nashville. Mack's brother Watson (former VU coach) is HC at TN Tech and supposedly spilled the beans to someone. In addition to Mack's retiring, we have also heard that a ten year, $10 million per deal will be offered to Saban. A hundred mill is a lot of scoots, but you folks have the program and the income.

(Regarding Mack Brown retiring):

"Confirmed reports from people really connected inside the program have said there is nothing to this. Not to say Mack may have a change of heart and completely unexepected change his mind, but Mack has said many times this season that this year has been one of his most enjoyable by having the new blood in to the program and seeing young players stepping in and playing. Unless there is some health issue or family issue, I see no reason for him to leave at this point. Look at the talent that just arrived this year and the class coming next year.

(regarding Saban):

And the Saban rumor is just that. Nothing to it at all."

Solid, but never has a team played as many games as Alabama in that 4 year span.

True every year at Texas - when was the last time Texas lost 5 games back-to-back? I'll save the suspense for you - it was '96/'97. What happened? They fired Makovic and hired Brown.

Florida played the same amount of games from 2006-2009. They were the previous record holder with 46 wins.
