Jimbo Fisher - A-plus -Fisher is a proven winner, has won a national title, has recruited in the SEC and has experience with the LSU culture. He’s also an offensive-minded coach, something that is a must for the Tigers' new hire. You can’t get much better than this if LSU can pull it off.

Tom Herman - B-plus - Herman is a tremendous offensive mind. He proved that he can handle big-time athletes at Ohio State and he’s done an amazing job at Houston. While he lacks SEC experience, Herman has recruited the target areas for LSU well in his short time with the Cougars. He’s a notch below Fisher, but not too far. The question is, does he want the Texas job more?

Larry Fedora - B - Fedora, like Fisher and Herman, is an offensive-minded coach and very well-respected for his offensive game-planning ability. He has SEC experience, albeit brief, and his ties to the Texas area are huge when it comes to recruiting. He’s a winner at a high level and has been good as a head coach at two stops.

Ed Orgeron - C - Orgeron is a great recruiter and a Louisiana native so he has that going for him. It must also be noted that the current LSU team has responded well to his interim stint. However, he’s a defensive coach, was a big-time failure at Ole Miss and is too risky for such an elite job.

Jimbo is the safest and smartest decision, but I can't help wanting to roll the dice on Herman

Jimbo and Herman are kind of opposites on the resume + exciting hire scale.

Jimbo, solid A+ resume but about a B+ in terms of exciting hires. Herman, B+ resume, A for excitement.

Yup.

Or even Fleck. That's a big roll, but I'd take it.

you don't even have to really be an educated fan

you just have to look at very simple, easy to understand statistics

it'd be a question on an exam that you'd answer really quickly before circling back to the tougher ones

People don't seem to be paying as much attention to this as they probably should. You should change the thread title to:

"Rivals.com says Coach O was a failure at Ole Miss and is too risky for such an elite job."

Too long maybe?

I will take the A+ resume over the B+ resume and pay the market price required. Style points are for wannabes, not top tier programs. We suppose to be top 5, well we need to act like it!!!

I don't see why the fans that are falling all over themselves for O can't understand that last sentence in bold text.

I don't get the "save Coach O" people at all. If pulling a coup like getting Jimbo from FSU is even remotely on the table and your head coach isn't Saban or Urban you do it. It's literally that simple.

Different time in the program. Has nothing to do with today. The program hadn't experienced anywhere near the level of success it has lately. Also, competition within the conference was a lot different. I keep seeing all these posts from you trying to compare what happen 10-15-20 years ago to whats happening today. I just doesn't work that way. The program has grown and evolved since then.

I'm fine with all the logic here except this. Nick Saban is a defensive mind. And that's why he wins so much. It so happens that he's also excellent at talent evaluation in his assistant coaches, which is why he pulls guys like Freshwater to run the offense.

The big thing here is, regardless of the philosophy of the HC, he needs to keep CDA, hire an excellent OC, and trust them to do their jobs.
