some other coaches may use michigan.

jh is not. if he is not interested, he will say no at the beginning. he played here and has root here.

He did it last time round. Look it up. Adam Schfter and John Clayton were on ESPN saying Harbaugh to UM was a lock, after he had publicly met with both the 49ers and dolphins.

Someone leaked the offer: Harbaugh's camp, or Michigan. If Harbaugh did, he is using them. If Michigan did, then it is someone who is not happy about the situation. There is no scenario where Michigan wants this offer public IMO.

One scenario. They get turned down by Harbaugh politely but believe he is still interested. They make their offer public so that some other potential bidders never even enter the fray.

Or he turned them down months ago and they just want to appear to be doing something.

So on Monday Webb has the $49mm number but doesn't have the years so he assumes it is 8yrs, which is wild enough

Then the 6yrs and $49mm comes out from some TV reporter in Arizona two days later, which if true is stupid

Schefter, a Michigan alum, calls BS on the report on ESPN and says Michigan has no private plane for recruiting, one of the smallest support staffs in the Big Ten and refused to buy iPads for the players to use as their play books.

Then a report comes out that says the $49mm is all school money and NO private money which is preposterous for a public university. But we are supposed to believe Michigan will outspend an NFL team?

Now Feldman is saying the 6yr $49mm is "not accurate"

why does a coaching search that seemed so professional and locked down now stink like shite and appear to be falling apart?

There is so much of this that just doesn't add up

I thought the ten years $10mm rumor for Saban was dumb. But I understood the importance of the Longhorn network, UTexas branding and national exposure kind of sort of made it make some sense but not really

6yr $49mm is retarded, especially at a rust belt school in the middle of a region with a dying economy and very little recruiting base to service it.

Buying out Hoke, paying Harbaugh and his high priced assistants and supporting a national recruiting budget seems like a large scale financial commitment the level of which they have never ever considered before. To say they want to pay Harbaugh with only school money doesn't seem legal and definitely seems like a fantasy

Lets say JH takes the offer. How will he be able to surround himself with talented coordinators and coaches? I would have to think that they would not be getting paid very much since Michigan wants to throw all of its money at one guy rather than a talented group of coaches.

I guess the argument could be JH has been successful in the past with inferior supporting coaches i.e. San Diego St. and Stanford?

I don't believe the public money thing. I read somewhere that Stephen Ross and the big cigars have decided to buck up. Is that so surprising? People 40 and under had never seen Michigan football like this until seven years ago. The school is desperate and has a lot of money. They have been able to go cheap in the past because the success was automatic and they could find someone grateful to take the job. Not anymore. This board is funny because now people are mocking Michigan for trying to overpay, but if they didn't, everyone would be criticizing them for being tightwads. Harbaugh will be worth the money if he brings success. My $0.02 is that if Harbaugh wasn't interested, the school would know that and have already made a big play for Les or somebody else.

Okay back when Jim was hired by SF49ers he was supposedly offered 8 mil a year by Miami. If true why turn down 8 to take 5 at San Fran? Well as it turns out Jim was leaking the bs Miami offer to leverage his position with SF.

Fast forward, ditto Michigan offer.

yeah I heard this yesterday on SVP and Russillo. The story goes SF offered $5mm and the rumor came out that Miami offered $7mm. Then Harbaugh took the SF job.

After the fact, it came out that the rumor for the $7mm offer was from Harbaugh himself. Russillo also said that at one time there were two guys that thought they were Harbaugh's agent representing him in negotiations.

quote:

LINK
Harbaugh was hastily pursued by Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross in a bizarre situation considering his team still had Tony Sparano in place as its head coach. While rumors floated that the Dolphins were offering Harbaugh $7 million to $8 million to become their coach, one source with direct knowledge of the situation said that Miami never offered a contract to Harbaugh. The “bidding” was driven by rumors and propaganda, and Ross had become “intoxicated” with the idea of Harbaugh according to the source after Stanford had spent a week in Miami preparing for the Orange Bowl.

Anybody else notice that Webb reported $49mm but didn't know the years? Then he incorrectly speculated on 8 years at $6.125mm which is the college market but doesnt make Harbaugh the highest paid coach in football. Then two days later, some reporter in Arizona reports $49mm for 6yrs ($8.167mm per) which would make the highest paid coach in all of football. Coincidence? I dont think so. I bet the source for webb's report was someone in Jim Harbaugh's camp. Someone like his dad?

So that means some team will have to be willing to give him North of Sean Payton's $8mm/year and Michigan's alleged "$8.167mm" offer. Which I think is a no-brainer for a Pro team
