I read that a little differently. It sounds to me like, even though it is time for Brown to move on, he is leaving things a LOT better than he found them. Especially the money situation.

Can we get the full McCombs quotes added to OP?

quote:

Mike Finger @mikefinger
More McCombs: "I think Mack has earned the right to do whatever he wants to do, whether he wants to stay or wants to go."

quote:

Max Olson ? @max_olson
More McCombs on Mack: "If you can find a reason to get rid of a guy like that, you’d really have to reach."

quote:

University of Texas benefactor Red McCombs believes Longhorn head coach Mack Brown will return for another season, according to the San Antonio Express-News.

“I don’t know,” McCombs said. “But if I were betting, I’d say he’ll be back.”

Brown, who is under contract until 2020, has been the subject of rampant speculation this season as to the status of his job. The 62-year-old head has not made a statement one way or the other about his plans for next season. It’s expected he, new athletic director Steve Patterson and school president Bill Powers will discuss his future after Saturday’s game against Baylor.

The Longhorns will face the Bears in both school’s regular season finale, with at least a share of a Big 12 title on the line. McCombs says odds makers are correct to make Texas a 14-point underdog. But he also thinks Baylor may be in for a surprise.

“I sense a personal journey for the Texas players right now,” McCombs said Friday. “I think there’s going to be an upset.”

Coaching situations at big time schools never change in five days. Congrats to Rich Rod on his success at Alabama.

Interesting.

I'm surprised he didn't call Texas poor and say they had no shot at Saban.

Yeah...in that same conversation, he predicted UT would upset Baylor.

Do you honestly think one of the richest guys in the world, who I believe has the naming rights to the UT business school, didn't know Mack was out the door the second UT lost to Baylor? In all likelihood he thinks Mack is a standup guy and was going to let him "retire" on his own accord after the regular season

I hope they hire Saban and then I hope Saban fails miserably at UT.

Wouldn't bet much on him failing if he goes.

That fricker is annoying as hell, but if we think he recruits well at Bama, just wait till that fricker is actual in Texas!
