The chances of this being a threat for leverage toward FSU are so far greater. As much as we want to talk about how it makes sense for him to come here (and I believe it does), this would have been extremely difficult to pull off. That's just the reality.

I believed this last year and it's probably still true. It's hard to dislodge an established coach, and it might simply be too expensive to do. But on the the hand, there has been such relentless persistent Jimbo speculation all this time that there may really be a chance. But Jimbo is such a natural fit and a home run hire for Alleva that, unless Alleva knew for a fact he wasn't leaving FSU, he'd be top candidate.

Alleva has thrown everything at him. Sometimes people just say no. Maybe he doesn't think the grass is greener!

I'm not a "weak arse" for pointing out the obvious. The powers that be, that you apparently trust so much, are the very reason I started this thread. I'm not the one who messed up the hire at the end of last season. I'm not trolling, I'm only saying that I hope this time around the hire works out for us.

I'm with you man, always on the need better leadership before we can Miles.

You've seen the names of so many coaches on this board that were IT, or the guy that can elevate the program, then they go lose more games than our current coach.

LSU hired Les Miles after winning a national title. And people think LSU can just go get anyone. Half the fan base thinks Les is a retarded clown.

Both these guys would have come last year. One of these guys is coming this year. LSU is going to throw so much money that one of the 2 is coming.

Let's pray Herman or Fisher gets hired because, otherwise, we, I'm afraid, are going back to the 90's. And I'm old enough to remember how bad those years were.

Many folk didn't come up in the 90's like we did and have no idea how excited we were to go to the Independence Bowl.

It's not that at all, the problem is our fans psyche would be set back for 10 years. It means we aren't one of the elite programs in the country if we can't land our targets. The next coach won't have the fan base behind him.

Yep, I came up in the 90's as well. Those years made going to OK vs LSU in the dome one of the best memories of my life. Hearing the fight song after Vincent took it to the house still bring chills and is seared in my memory.

Negotiations 101: Make your #1 choice known and put all eggs in that basket. Totally helps your negotiating power and leverage.

Jesus TD is being overrun by 16 year olds and fans who have never stepped foot into a college classroom.

absolutely incorrect. maybe you have never paid attention to a coaching hire before now. ANY top level school faces the same problems and that is getting a top level coach. LSU may indeed have to do what Texas, Alabama, USC, Michigan, Tennessee, Florida, etc have done in the past. and that is keep going down the list until someone is hired.

anytime you target one coach, or two, the odds are not good. there is just too many obstacles and any one could be a deal breaker.

all LSU can do is make certain that they are not an obstacle. Fisher is going to cost us 7 million or more. it's todays price for a top coach. even then, he can get a bump from FSU and not come. the problem with getting a proven top coach is that other people want them too.

that's the reality.

another reality is that LSU is a college. if we fire King over a damn football coach, we are fools.

I think a lot of people are missing the reality of the Jimbo situation. It's almost unheard of for a top paid, championship head coach to leave his current position unless it's for the NFL

that sir IS the reality. however, a lot of LSU fans live in fantasy world and will not believe you. in order for a coach to move in this circumstance there has to be a serious reason; major conflict with the admin, impending investigation (Lou Holtz), etc, etc. without a catalyst the present school simply keeps the coach by throwing some alumni money at him.

most likely, LSU will get their coach from a school that doesn't pay well and a guy will be attracted by a 5 million plus job in the limelight. I can see the Okie lite, West Virginia or North Carolina guy coming here.

My take on the situation, the target is and has always been Jimbo. Groundwork was laid last year.
He's been here during Saban's building and Miles' peak (2000-2006), he knows firsthand what is required. Furthermore, he's proven at Fla St that he can handle a job this big.

Herman is a 1-A choice, but only as leverage and fallback. All the potential in the world, but nowhere near the experience.

Weren't we told to expect conflicting stories being intentionally put out to throw the media off the scent?

No you make either of them an offer they can't refuse. Jimbo is known commodity. Herman more risky. Doesn't matter you are gambling with either one do not get cheap when the money is there.

LOL like going to college automatically qualifies anyone to know how to negotiate. I went to college didn't graduate and I negotiate with in my job constantly to get concessions. It's something you have to learn in nearly all types of business dealings.
