Why wouldn't he be serious? Impressive resume.

I know little about Rhoads ... all I remember is watching the end of the Pitt - WV game last yr (the game that let LSU sneak into the NC game) and Pitt's defense was all-out blitzing, and as usual when you blitz, it worked. Anyone else remember that? So, I don't know if that one game is indicative of his coaching style. How did Auburn's defense do this year ... that would be a good barometer of Rhoads' likely success as a DC at LSU. He would be pretty high on my list. Dicking around though as LSU is at present may only result in some other school hiring him. And yes, I am a Miles' fan, but I consider his current course of inaction to be --quote -- dicking around -- end quote.

now that i look it up Auburn was better than i thought they would be. number 15 overall, one spot behind Ole Miss and 4 behind Tenn. i guess i just see 8 years at Pitt as more of a detriment than an attribute. even being in the same room as Dave Wandstadt is embarrassing. for the record i still want Nix from Ole Miss. guys a home run.

Tubberville tried to hire Rhoads twice and succeeded on his second attempt. Say what you want about Tubs but he could flat out hire some strong DC; even if he couldn't keep them. Trying to hire Rhoads two separate times is a huge endorsement in my book; Rhoads would be a solid hire. There are a lot of good candidates out there and Miles will hire a good one.

But look at those teams records. Other teams would keep the ball away from them kill the clock and wouldn't have to score lots of points or get lots of yards, just beat them by a few scores.

Also, I'm not against hiring Rhoads, just don't know if I'd be that excited about him. He's a step up from what we have, but I think it is a safe play, not a home run imho.

If you look at all the injurys Auburn had on defense and how bad the offense sucked. The D was okay under Rhoades. They were on the field for most of the games.

My point exactly, a good defense will get a stop and get off the field.

Are you SURE he's not doing anything? Just because he's not providing daily updates to the Rant does not mean nothing is being done. How many quality candidates do you think he would get if he was conducting interviews through the media??????

I'm not trying to defend Rhodes, but Aubie was in a ton of close games, no one laid off the gas.

as usual when you blitz, it worked.

Except of course, for those times when the opposing team's OC anticipates your blitz, calls a play with a short 3-step drop for his QB with a quick release and your blitzing wonders are staring over their respective shoulders as the OC's speedy receiver streaks to the end zone for 6.

Yeah, as usual when you blitz, it worked ... for the offense on the other team.

Duh? You kinda sorta need to know when to blitz and when not to blitz. Saban confused the hell out of Tebow in the first quarter when on 3rd and long he only rushed 2 and dropped 9. Result? 4th down and punt.

Blitz, blitz, blitz, blitz all the time will get you the record for the most yards per play allowed against your defense. What makes the blitz so damn effective is in having a DC who knows how to design 'em AND when to call 'em. Period.
