Isn't one of the only things Les has said regarding the position is that he will only hire someone with prior DC experience?
If so, and if you take Les at his word, then that would exclude Daly.

When is everyone going to learn that these local media guys have no inside info?
They are media and by definition can't be trusted with inside info.

Let's assume for a sec Ponamsky is not totally full of BS and is not just making it up. Why the news it won't be until 1/23? Could mean...
1). Recruit theory: They have no clue. Still looking through a long list. Not worried because no visiting recruits until 1/23. Speculation of announcement on the day of the NC meant they had to pump the brakes.
2). NFL coach theory: they've locked in on a guy but he is in the playoffs still. Leaking early would sabotage the deal or be problematic for some reason.
3). Reset theory: someone they had locked onto just went another direction. There has been a lot of movement in the last 24 hours in the pro ranks. They now need to reset, start over and needed to kill speculation they would have an announcement tomorrow.
4). Lie theory: Ponamsky was fed a lie for some reason (possibly to head fake the media before announcing tomorrow)
#1 and #4 seem unlikely but possible. Optimist in me says it's #2. Theory #3 would be bad.

It's also true that the "lengthy list" will more than likely shrink substantially due to other teams, both Pro and College, being serious and going after their guys while LSU make an attempt to make a decision. Sorta like a youngster being turned loose in Toys R Us. Not to mention the fact that this rant will have total nuclear meltdown.

Hopefully the wait is almost over so by the time recruits do come in our new DC can find his office.

This is all proving more and more to me that Miles was actually holding out for the UM job.

Dammit Rummy I'm gonna have to look up what he said now.

If that is truly the case you don't need to read between the lines to figure this out. Les has no clue where to go and who to hire or who will come and work with Les that is not a big gamble and could cost him his job.

may need to send in an exterminator first to clear the cobwebs

People with sources can only release what they are allowed to release, otherwise those sources stop being sources. Insiders have to be team players, they really don't have a choice.

all of this is exhausting... people throwing out every name in the hopes that it might be, or could be, that guy.
spin this anyway you'd like but this really is a mess on the part of LSU. current job or not, there is no reason the coach could not announce he was leaving after the season.
i think its safe to assume at this point that LSU has not hired anyone - secretly or not.

True.
It was announced that Pelini would be HC at Nebraska before we played Ohio State in the NC game. That is just one of many examples.
And if I remember correctly, Les waited until mid February to promote Malveto to DC.

Basically the ones that know can't say anything.
Also it sounds like the guy's current employer would fight to keep him so keeping it hush benefits the candidate and LSU

I tend to agree. This has been a cluster%$#& on LSU's part since letting Chavis coach the last game. It just shows how little actual respect it can muster now. Miles might come out and surprise us all, but I believe it'll be typical WTF.
