PJ Fleck for LSU: 10-0 edition

He is proving that he is a winner. My only concern is his recruiting ability. At LSU, you don't really need to be a great recruiter, but you need to be good. Is he good enough?

I just checked on 247... looks like he is... They were ranked 7th in the MAC the year he was hired (not really his class). They have finished 1st in the MAC the next 3 years, and are currently 1st for this recruiting cycle.

You're missing my point. I'm saying wait and see on Fleck.

I don't think the second job makes them a better coach. But I would rather just wait and see if he is a great coach or a great MAC coach.

All were MAC coaches. All were hired straight from the MAC to Power 5 jobs. All did pretty well.

Woody was 37
Ara was 32
Bo was 38

I'm sure we can come up with an exhaustive list of those that did the same thing and were total busts at their next destination.

I can come up with a list of all coaching hires in history and the overwhelming majority would be failures. Maybe we should just not hire a coach!!

No one knows if the next coach is going to be a bust at LSU or not, unless their name were Saban, Meyer, or Harbaugh, is my point. Your point is clear: "DS loves him some Fleck"

Per his wikipedia page:
quote:

Despite the on-field difficulties in 2013, Fleck and his staff succeeded off the field by signing a highly-ranked recruiting class. Observers noted that it was possibly the best recruiting class in WMU history, and the best in the MAC since 2000. Rivals.com had the WMU class ranked highest among "mid-major" programs for 2014, with 247Sports.com ranking the class 36th-best nationally for 2015.

Fleck and WMU had the highest-rated recruiting class in the MAC for the fourth consecutive year.

Yeah, I think he can recruit... After going 1-10, he signs the best class in WMU history

Yes! I've been on the Fleck bandwagon from the get-go. Let do this!

This man will be in the SEC within 2 years if LSU does not hire him this year. I can see almost any team from the east hiring him right away or MSU or TAMU in the west.

This guy should be LSU's coach.

I don't know anything about Fleck, but that article already has me believing he'll be great somewhere big.

Brian Brohm or Fleck.. can be gotten for a decent price.. and we're poor so we need to save a few $$$ to pay recruits. If other teams are going to cheat.. you have to too

Fleck and Aranda would be a force in the SEC for years to come.

LSU needs to make that hire happen.

Is his 10-0 record due to acumen as a coach or to a senior laden team? Idk. He seems like a MAC version of Herman without the NC OC credentials.
To me Herman >Fisher due to age with Fleck being third

QB and top WR are seniors
I like Fleck - but I think he is a riskier hire than Herman

It is his fourth season coaching there. He was hired in 2012, meaning 2013 was his first recruiting class. Unless the seniors are redshirts he recruited them. Plus, any seniors on the team will be a product of his coaching as he has had them for 4 years.

I echo the sentiment that there is a P.J.Fleck type candidate almost every year. There is a huge difference in managing the culture at an LSU, Texas or Alabama versus a university that's not really a mid-major (a euphemism for much lesser). I remember Skip Holtz being one of those guys, somebody has already mentioned Brady Hoke. Let him "fix" a Kentucky, Illinois or Virginia and then let's talk.
