Ole Miss offered Nutt $9.5 million over five years – $1.9 million a year – the fifth year being a rollover year. Nutt’s Arkansas contract was for about $1.5 million a year.

I wouldn't worry. There aren't anymore Mannings left to recruit. Seriously though, I don't understand the draw to Houston Nutt. He's lost SO many games for Ark (see this past Bama game)and his scandals outnumber Urban Meyer's crying press conferences.

Honestly, I think all of us should be worried. Nutt is a pretty good coach and levels above Orgeron. I'm curious to see if Arkansas gets a good coach though. If they do, that could make the West that much tougher in years to come.

The author needs to check his sources again. Ole Miss is a publicly funded state university. Due to state laws, they can not offer contracts longer than 4 years.

HE COULDNT CONSISTENTLY WIN BIG At ARKY., thats no in state competiton arkansas. yes they battle ou and tex on a few but he had no real main comp in state of ark, now he's going to a worse program with competition for recruits surrounding him...... Tenn to the n/e, bama east, lsu south, arky to the west......

i think this is a dumb hire by ole miss..... they needed someone who runs a wide open spread offense, throwing the ball 40-50 times a game to attract skill players score alot a points prob give up alot, but bring excitement back to thier games..... then once they loaded up on athletes the def would come

remember its not like arky has always ran the wild cat, and when are they ever gonna have a DMAC, Jones, and Hillis???? it was a good fit for what they had..... and it was an offense that had to get going, if you shut it down early and got a lead on them then you could bury them........ We didnt get the lead, 2 fgs killed us....... get them down by 2 scores and see how effective offense is then.......

You have a short memory. Remember Clint Stoener? If you had the best rb combination in the country would you throw the ball 25-40 times a game? No, you would run every down just as Arkansas has done the last 2 years. Houston Nutt is able to adapt to fit his personel.

Will not win you games in the SEC. To much speed on defense to consistently win running a texas tech style offense. You must have some sort of balance, unless you have someone like Mcfadden and Jones and then you can just run the ball every down.

If Houston Nutt is hired, it would be a great hire for Ole Miss.

I think all of you bama fans should be worried. You may fall yet another spot in the west. But it won't affect the big boys of the conference one way or the other.

Nutt's getting out at Arky, because after this year they'll have zero talent. (no DMAC, no Monk, no Jones, no Hillis)

Absolutely. Plus he was going to have a tough time recruiting in Arkansas after the Springdale debacle. If he had a loaded team coming back next year, no way he leaves to go to Ole Miss.

It may be a done deal, but the Clarion Ledger, Ole Miss' Sports site, Ole Miss' Rivals Site, OM's Scout Site, and the Memphis Commericial Appeal aren't reporting this.

ESPN is...but oh well

AP is now reporting it:

I heard an interview this morning with Jimmy Sexton (Nutt's agent) and Jimmy said that no deal had been set yet with Ole Piss but that if it was going to happen it would be today. SMU is also looking at Nutt and they have the money to get him if Nutt wants to step outside the SEC.
