I think if he could ever get all the Players he needs like a Center at Center, Guards at Guard, and Tackles at Tackle he would do pretty well. He has struggled trying to keep all the positions filled, injuries, etc.

I am really curious to see how our OL changes with Canada.

JEFF Grimes is a pretty dang good OL recruiter. Has the "poor performance" been a schematic or system thing? Or was it just that he is not a very good coach?

ETA:

Our PFF grades are #1 in the country. We have a great running scheme, it just doesn't work when teams as talented as us know exactly what the frick we're going to do each play. So maybe Grimes will appear to be much, much better with a new OC.

JB Grimes isn't as good of a recruiter, but seems to be a much better coach. We have to keep some recruiters on staff.

I'm willing to let it ride one more year with Grimes. He came with a really good reputation and I just wonder if it was more what Miles was forcing schematically as well. I also saw the story that Miles was pushing him to play guys out of their natural position, but that may not be factual.

I am not impressed with the performance of Jeff G. His previous slot was Va. Tech and they are not known for great running teams.

I would really like se us give Mawae a shot, bring back a Tiger and a bonfire do All Pro.

Think we gotta give Jeff a full year while not under a Miles umbrella, to fully gauge what he can do. No doubt his recruiting has been exemplary. Let's see maybe what he can do without the former O-lineman head coach micromanaging him?

as a teacher, JB is pretty good. I don't think he is the best recruiter ever, although that may be a little unfair as he pulled in a great class his last year. We are just devoid of tackles to the point where our two deep this year to start the year was a converted center (who moved back to center), a transfer, a 2 star (who was great) and a converted DE.

If he has the pieces he needs, he can coach em up

JB Grimes is a great coach. Really teaches fundamentals extremely well. Players love him.

He's an average recruiter IMO.

Another thing, he's getting pretty old and has already had a battle with cancer. I don't see him coaching much longer.

Exactly the opposite.

Do you watch or go to games?

The roster is full of OL's that are not SEC quality.

They can't pass block consistently, have major breakdowns every "Big Boy" game and just don't seem to be grasping what Grimes is trying to teach them with his Zone Blocking scheme.

The Run Blocking looks half-Way decent sometimes solely because of #7 and #5.

Haven't seen one single game under Grimes where all 5 OL's are on the same page all the time.

The OL is the one area of the team that is not even close to Bama level. All the other areas are "In the Neighborhood."

Don't know what some of you guy's are looking at.

Ok pal.

1) The roster isn't all Jeff Grimes doing. he hasnt been here long enough to pin it all on him. The problem has most to do with not having true tackles playing tackle for a few years now. We got a few good ones in this class.

2) Zone blocking schemes have very little to do with pass blocking. So if they didnt understand zone blocking schemes as you say, then our run game would be putrid. Which it obviously isn't.

3) This thread is about J.B. Grimes, not Jeff Grimes. Or should I say the OP was... then the thread got hijacked.

Semjase is clearly ignorant on O line play. If you are dumb enough to think 7 and 5 did it on their own you are just plain dumb. I've stated a few times the middle line for LSU is solid and run production this year was off the chart. Issue has been tackle spot and pressure off the edge. So if I listen to you Pocic All SEC and All American and Clapp Coaches All SEC suck? Ok

Great coach. Mediocre scout. Below average recruiter of talent.

If you could keep Jeff Grimes to recruit and hire JB Grimes on the support staff to do the actual coaching, you would have a winning combo.

Actually that's the main thing he does... With Miles gone we will see an improved O-line... I don't think people realize how much Miles meddled in personnel decisions on the team but it wasn't no different from most Head Coaches... to me the difference was "feeling" like a player is better than the other than watching practice film and "knowing"...
