Do they keep getting turned down by major candidates and end up with Friggin Charlie Strong?

They play in a trash conference and play uninteresting games. They don't outrecruit LSU, A&M, OU, or Baylor for that matter for Texas kids.

There are several SEC Jobs which are every bit as good as Texas if not better. LSU is one of them. So is Florida, Tennessee, Bama, and at this point A&M.

Hell, I doubt that Texas is even the top job in Texas any longer. A&M's move to the SEC has done a lot of damage to Texas' clout in Texas.

Boosters there are a pain in the arse and scare away some coaches.

Otherwise, it's a fantastic gig. If they ever do get a great coach, most of your points are reversed.

Maybe the money.... you saying they settled for Charlie Strong proves your ignorance. You do realize how highly pursued he was at Louisville don't you?

Hell, we outspend them by 1.5 million on our entire coaching staffs. If they have that deep of pockets they should be near the top.

Same with USC .

If USC is so much better why are they still reeling to field an elite team post-PC? Coach after coach..

Complete failure.

LSU has proven they can withstand a coaching change once being established.. if an average coach like Miles can maintain.. imagine an above average coach with this talent.. sky is the limit. I believe LSU is the #1 job. Just look at the difference a new coach made this week for LSU.

Texas didn't even make a bowl game. They signed a great class and got all the Baylor guys and they are still trash. Absolutely horrid defense. I'm so sick of people who try to compare LSU to Tennessee or some other shite school.

Certain programs can withstand a coaching change such as Ohio St and FSU. Some can't. USC and Texas both still crap. LSU proven they can once being among the elite.

One more note, people keep acting like the SEC is just some ridiculously tough conference.. but I don't really see it that way. Of course they have great players.. but Florida and Alabama have both shown you can establish tremendous success in it.. I believe LSU, with the right coach, can be every bit as much a dynasty as Alabama.. who is actually beatable given an offensive mastermind.

I think all top coaches should be looking hard at LSU instead of the other programs that continue to fail..

Actually one big turn off is the Long horn network. Coaches have to do shows on the network all the time.

Well I will show you your ignorance. LSU outspends Texas on its' football staff. LSU, Bama, and Florida outrecruit Texas and have for a long time so the recruits must see something in LSU and the SEC as well.

A&M is outrecruiting Texas in Texas as well.

Regarding how desired Charlie Strong was is just a joke because Texas made a run at Saban and he said no. Charlie Strong was the 3rd or 4th choice for Texas so once again WTF is so great about the Texas program? Hell, they are a middle of the pack Big12 team. That is reality. LSU on the other hand has one of the most talented teams in the nation and plenty of money itself as well as top notch facilities and a rabid fan base. Then there is the fact that LSU is in the SEC.

Tell me again what all these things are which supposedly make Texas this great job which is so much better than LSU?

You are the ignorant one.

Saw the news tonight that Vance Bedford, Texas DC, has been demoted. Strong is taking over Bedford's responsibilities as DC.

I think Strong gets another year.

Texas didn't just settle for strong. He was the hottest coaching candidate in the country at the time and made teddy bridgewater a household name.
You forget that they pushed hard for Saban and were prepared to make him even more ludicrously wealthy that Alabama could even dream of.
Fact is, Texas is still one of the premier coaching destinations right now. The uncertainty over the future of the big 12 may scare some of but it shouldn't...Texas will have suitors from coast to coast regardless of how that plays out. They really are just one good coach away from waking up from their slumber I'm afraid to say

Texas used to dominate the state's recruiting. All the good players in texas wanted to go to UT. Baylor had a pityful program. SMU had been placed on strict probation and even weren't allowed to have a team for a couple of years. TCU was a small independent school and Houston and Rice were jokes.

Mack Brown had two Heisman winners, conference championships, and a national championship. A&M were his only real competition in Texas. All of that has changed. They still have a lot of money but the shine is off the program. Still one of the best jobs in the country from a salary standpoint and lots and lots of extras.

Strong w/o Bridgewater

Fischer w/o Winston

Herman had QBs at OHio St, and has developed one at UH. He may be that good, or he could have been at the right place at the right time. Time will tell. He could be just "good but not great". Downvotes accepted.

Curley Hallman w/o Brett Favre wasn't.

I still don't think Strong is a bad coach. That team was rotten to the core when Mac left. I think he should have two more years

The same things you're using to describe Texas could be the very same scenario LSU faces come December

LSU fans kill me. Sorry to break it to ya, but the LSU HC position isn't the ultimate
end-all be-all coaching position that y'all think it is

It amazes me how little people in LA actually know about what and how things work in Texas. The Univ of Texas System has so much money its mind boggling...Strong was a compromise option after Mac Brown sabotaged Saban to Texas, he virtually has 0 mega booster support, and they really run everything at UT. Strong's support comes from within the liberal Sipp intelligentsia which is mainly faculty and Admins...and they have no power. If UT loses to OU, Strong can throw all his staff under the bus, it wont matter, he'll be gone.

It's true. Texas is a giant power and unlike any job in the country

It's the definition of a true CEO type job

Most people not involved with UT dont know the whole story of why they couldnt get an A list coach back in 2013. They had just hired a new AD Steve Patterson who was very unlikable and rubbed people the wrong way. He lasted all of 20 months.

Also many coaches were very close with Mack Brown and felt he was treated very poorly and disrespected and we all know coaching is a fraternity and that rubbed guys the wrong way.

it was combination of a bunch of things. in a clean slate perfect world, texas can damn near get anyone they want.

Say what you will and laugh all you want, but the Saban to Texas thing was very real and would have happened had Mack resigned and gone out on his terms.

I know your point was to slam on ignorant LSU folks here, but doesn't much of this go to explain what is inherently wrong with the Texas job?
