They need someone who operates a little outside the box and does more with less. Leach and Mullen were great examples of this. Chadwell runs a unique offense like Leach and Leipold pulls the most out of mid-tier recruits like Mullen so I would target one of them. Arnett should have realized State won’t compete with the SEC big dogs running this generic offense that didn’t fit his players.

Mullen never did this. Dude did less with more. Not one time in his HC career during the regular season, when facing a ranked opponent but having the higher ranked team, did he win that game. Every single time his team was ranked and facing another ranked team, and he was supposed to win - he lost. Not only that, he's one of the worst evaluators of talent I've ever seen. Didn't want to play Dak but had to due to injury. Did everything he could to play the wrong guy at QB at UF. And he wanted to sit Tebow and Harvin on the bench for the entire 2006 season. UF doesn't win that natty in 2006 without Tebow and Harvin on the field. Meyer forced Mullen to play them. Also he sucks at recruiting. Tebow was set to go to Bama and play for Shula, despite his family being UF alums, all because of Mullen. It was Meyer that got him to UF.

Dan Mullen is an idiot.

counterpoint; Ms. State's NFL player's got them ranked #1....the hunchback just got the credit....any good/great coach would of exceeded what that team accomplished

Lashlee and Leipold are currently in better jobs, at least in terms of the possibility of winning their conferences and potentially reaching a 12-team playoff.

MSU may pay more, but the difference isn’t huge - if it even exists.

With Texas and Oklahoma joining the SEC, Kansas moves up a couple of notches in the Big 12 and Mississippi State moves down a couple in the SEC.

MSU will be ranked No. 15 in program strength in the new SEC, ahead of only Vandy.

You are a fricking idiot. It's true Mullin didn't recruit but he got the most out of his players and put a lot of them in the NFL. And he was an excellent evaluator or talent

State is ranked high among alums' NFL contracts, and nearly all of those played under Mullen. Several were two and three star recruits. He's a tremendous evaluator. Or at least a tremendous developer.

100% this. I also think you need a bigger name coach to recruit in the sec. Gus malzahn or Kingsbury fit this description imo. Kingsbury would be moo states version of kiffin. Might be interesting.

From Mullen's 2nd season through his last at State, State was sixth in the SEC in wins. He was more than Dak Prescott.

He beat the teams he was favored against m, but didn't beat teams favored against him very often. I think he was good at game preparation, but too conservative with his in-game calls.

I'm not sure Kingsbury's instagram girlfriend would move to Starkville. I know he used to live in Lubbock, but he doesn't appear to be "small college town guy" anymore.

I don't know about Odom, but I like the rest of the OP's list.

State got to number 1 by beating A&M, LSU and Auburn to start out the season. OM basically had 4 weeks to prepare for Bama. When you have a month to prepare for a team you tend to do well
