Oh Lord. So its already down to Gruden or Gus?

Seriously, Gus wouldn't surprise me, but that's due to the extreme level of situational fricktardation that our program is prone to. The Gus cult in NWA will never die.

I'm not crazy about Gruden. I think he's been out of the game too long to step right in and win championships.

I definitely do not like Gus as the HC any time soon.

Gus hired the best coach my hometown ever had, and Shiloh destroyed all of us little towns showing zero class.

I know Gus would fracture the fanbase all over again. We don't have to settle for his trick pony show.

I'm interested to see how Bridgewater progresses at L'ville.

If we can't get an NFL guy that can bring some swag and rally the great people towards a common goal and away from their petty personal wants and desires then we go get a proven college guy like Patterson, Gundy, Ferentz, Leavitt, Dantonio.

Gruden has a low stress high paying job...not coming to Arkansas

Delusional hog fans are on the Gus Bus and more delusional Hog fans want Petrino back, neither will happen

This won't happen...

Patterson isn't leaving TCU, all the rest are possibilities, I wouldn't rule out Paul Petrino since he's Bobby's brother, nor Charlie Strong.

It's going to be a long football season and then we have another coaching search

If we can win 10 this year, I'm all for giving PMFP a shot at driving the bus for a few years. I love the system, and I know Paul is a great evaluator and developer of receiver and QB talent.

Part of me hopes McGee flames out at UAB and he comes back as OC with Paul as HC. I would be optimistic under that scenario.

Then Paul and Bobby could fight over assistants, wherever Bobby ends up.

Patterson isn't leaving TCU. Best I can tell he has never interviewed for another job in his 13 years at TCU.

Gundy is coaching at his alma mater. He definitely isn't leaving.

Ferentz is the fifth highest paid coach in football and has been at Iowa since '99. He isn't leaving unless he is fired.

As much as I hate it because he would be my #1 choice, Dantonio recently signed a contract extension that made him a "Spartan for life" so it doesn't seem like he is interested in leaving.

Leavitt would probably a realistic choice but he comes with some serious baggage since he got caught lying to his AD red handed just like Petrino. Might as well bring Bobby back in that case.

OK, so there'll be a huge amount of contract extensions by the end of the season I believe.

The potential of Arkansas, Tennessee, Florida, Kentucky in the SEC hiring and just maybe Texas and Notre Dame will scare schools into locking down their coach. The agents will play these admins like a fiddle and create a mini panic to spur the market and then it could snowball.

Lots of big schools have hired new coaches the last couple years and they likely will want to ensure some continuity.

Have you heard of David Lee? We're way too good of a program to rely on an unproven, never been an OC ANYWHERE guy to take over that part of the program.

David Lee is also about 30 years older than Dowell. IMO we need younger coaches on avg. than other programs to help with recruiting. I was never a fan of David Lee FWIW, but the shittiness of Nutt might have mad him look worse than he actually was

If we lose 4-5 games ole Jeffy gonna be feelin the heat on this one. He should never have allowed Matt Turner to ask him if he'd hire Bobby back. Why even go there? Dumb move IMO

So after the fanbase watches the first installment of the CBSSports Football Confidential -- Arkansas show that premiered last night the support for John L. Smith will likely go from "Hell NO!" to "Well, we'll see how the season goes"

Was a great episode and I think he'll be given a fair shot, but Paul Haynes may be the lead horse from the in-house candidates, especially if the Defense improves like we all want it to and need it to.

With every passing day I feel like the odds of JLS becoming the permanent head coach keep going up and up. Originally I would have guessed that he needed a West championship at least. Now, with all this positive press, I am betting he gets the job with a 9 win season.

Personally, I'm not a fan of this scenario. Everyone wants to keep this staff because of the Petrino offense but if we have a great season and PP doesn't get the job then I can easily see him getting another head coaching job at a small Sun Belt/MAC school. Then we're up a creek without a paddle and locked in to JLS for three years with no Petrino offense anymore.

If the driving reason to keep JLS is to keep the staff together then that is dumb so so dumb. I like to think that JL is a bit more savvy than to do that.

If he gets the job he'll have earned it.

We've got no less than 4 guys on staff that will/should be leading their own programs w/in 3 years.

DC - Haynes, I think the plan was for him to give us 3-4 good solid years.
OC - PPetrino, Not sure if this was a long term move or to help Paul get better prepared to take over a small school or get a OC job out west at a major school.
RB - Horton, He was on his way up the ladder at small schools before jumping in w/ Hootie. Just have a feeling w/ his pops retiring from the Foundation that he's ready to try his hand at running a Western Kentucky type school.

The 4th, a lot of people would say Taver or Caldwell and Taver might get a shot at a MAC school real soon. I could see Caldwell being a lifer as an Asst. at major programs. Those paychecks are better than FCS HC paychecks. He might be at the point where running his own show would be the way to end his career before a nice retirement in Mtn. Home.

I'm going with Kevin Peoples. Everything I've seen about him tells me he's HC material. He's one of the Carroll College boys and he's got the hottest wife in the SEC.

So all of that was just to say this staff won't be together for more than 2 seasons tops.

Agreed. Hell there is no guarantee that the entire staff would even stay or be retained next season if JLS or PP were hired full time. They may want to move on, those two might want to bring in different guys or they might get poached by Bobby for his new staff. Way to many variables for me to be comfortable.

While Petrino's offense is far and away my favorite in football, I just think we need to break free and start over with an entirely new staff.

I reserve the right to change my mind if we hire one of these up and coming spread coaches.
