interesting.. Mangas has experience with LSU, and Peetz i think is a damn good coach havving helped both CMC and Teddy B have really good years the years they coached them. I hope this board doesnt hate these options, theyre both young with nfl experience and, dare i say, success. Personally, i would really like Peetz. Hope he likes to recruit!

I like Peetz but not sure on Mangus. Also, I just don’t see how this scenario holds up unless Callaway stays an analyst, which I don’t see happening

That won’t matter. Some plays may change and new wrinkles will be added, but the overall playbook and scheme aren’t changing.

I think we have this backwards. Peetz would be OC, Callaway moves up, which has already been reported, and Mangas takes his spot at lead analyst. That’s a notch higher than he was here last year.

They’re going to hire an OC but give him a playbook and tell him what scheme he’s going to run? Seems like a great idea

50% will love the new hires. 50% will hate it. 99% of either side wont be able tell tell you schematically/strategically why they feel like they do.

Is this purportedly someone that Brady "recommended?" If so, wouldn't you have to look at that recommendation with a bit of scrutiny? As in, if he were really a big time coaching prospect why would the OC (and presumably the HC) be willing to suggest he depart the staff?

Might be a great hire. But is this the kind of guy Ed (potentially) wants to hang his job on with no "safety net"? Remember, LSU still had Ensminger at OC when Brady was hired. And if you do bring in Mangas and Peetz, what do you do with Callaway? Are you going to have SIX offensive coaches (Peetz, Mangas, Callaway, Cregg, Faulk, Joseph)? IIRC, 10 is the max number of non-analyst you can have. Add in O and McMahon, that leaves you would 2 defensive spots.

I would guess if they want Callaway to have an "on-field" spot that Mangas would have to be an analyst, right? Plus, this may be a way to somewhat save money knowing you are likely going to make a big offer for a DC

Coaching is a fraternity and he’s probably really close to those guys. He wants to see them move up the ladder like he has.

When he has an NFL HC job, I’m sure he’ll be giving these guys a call to join his staff there and continue their assent

Umm the little guy in Bama does this. Brady’s offensive foundation is pretty solid.

That’s the direction major programs are going. It’s what Bama does. Why do you think there last two OC hires were promotions from within? I’m not sure if they have a guy ready to be next up this time, but Saban is on record with this. They won’t overhaul their offense, no matter who takes their OC job.

I’m not saying things don’t change at all here, but the terminology, organization, and basic scheme will be the same. Look at this year’s LSU offense. We saw different plays emphasized and different gamplanning, but the basics were the same and everyone was clear that it was the same offense and playbook from 2019. Hopefully we are just putting it in more modern, forward-thinking hands this time.

I don’t think this is true.

I compared it to an apprenticeship program in another thread. However, unlike tradesmen who can move guys around to learn new skills in their own companies, the opportunities to move up within a single football organization are limited. Coaches have to send guys out to develop if they are going to grow into something more.

You don’t know shite and this proves it.

You probably think we ran a different offense this season than last, even after watching how Ensminger ran things on his own for 2/3 of 2016 and all of 2018.

I’ll bet you $100 right now we are running from the same playbook next season, too.

I think the idea is that Peetz is probably very familiar with the kind of scheme Brady runs and would run that type of scheme wherever he ends up. Hence why this hire is a good fit.

My source? i have no source, im not reporting the information on them coming down to interview. Its simply common knowledge that Mangas was an analyst with LSU in 2019. Peetz hasnt ever been an OC so its difficult to say what the scheme will be, but its a safe bet he will run a similar scheme that Joe Brady runs since he worked under him this year at Carolina. Of course, this is simply an assumption, he also has worked under the Grudens and Saban, so there may be elements of their offense in his scheme. However, its known LSU will try to maintain offensive continuity, so expect a similar offense to the last 2 years, but with added wrinkles (hopefully) like some RPOs added
