McNeese and Northwestern State have both fallen on very hard times. They were once very good to excellent FCS programs.

Hebert
Joe Delaney
Gary Reasons ('85 Bears)
Sidney Thornton (Steelers)
Mark Duper (Dolphins)

Also used to have a damn good track team.

It all depend on the buyout of John Melvin University’s Head Coach.

He is the target but if it is the $15,000 that I am hearing - forget about it.

I was told they pay about $380,000 just to use their own damn field! This was hear say but, it was from a close source to the program.

No way this is true. Maybe utility but not "field rental."

McNeese will bounce back quicker than NSU will. Better location, facility, and more money. NSU is better off downgrading to Division 2.

If I am NSU
Do not fool yourself by hiring just another conventional coach, the facilities, fanbase, town is very underwhelming, so recruiting big talent needed is not going to happen so go opposite direction.

Hire a flexbone/triple option HC- doesn't require same skillset as spread teams and will match the recruiting needed. Hard nose ball control offense and solid defense and you have a chance to have some success.

Blaine McCorkle from Belhaven D3. My son’s coach was at DSU. Thanks for the info that was put into this thread.

Good hire for Northwestern State, bad move for McCorkle. NSU is a graveyard for coaches; no support from the administration and last winning season was ‘08.

Wouldn’t have imagined Cooley would have entertained the idea; he was on the Peveto staff that was fired, but I’m sure NSU reached out to him.

Looks like he was a long snapper at LSU in the 90s
