The best head coaches were either dominant offensive or defensive coordinators and usually run their side of the ball for the team that they coach. The problem with Orgeron as a long term head coach is that he is not a coordinator and therefore there will not be long term consistency on either side of the ball with him as HC. A revolving door of coordinators is not good for a program.

I know your trying to point out how unqualified O is, and I agree he's not qualified, but this is not a good argument to make. Yes, it is preferred to have a coach who has been a successful coordinator, but there are coaches out there who have done great things without ever being a coordinator.

Urban Meyer has run the same offensive scheme everywhere he has been so that is a poor example. Jim Harbaugh was an NFL QB so don't tell me he doesn't have any influence on the offense. I'll give you Dabo.

Yeah maybe. The dumbest thing I keep seeing on here is that a good coach doesn't need to be reliant on good coordinators. bullshite the head coach can't tend to all he needs to if he has to devote his time to one side of the ball or the other.

This is false on the merits. Coach O has never carried the title defensive coordinator, but he has called his own defense at Ole Miss.

Also, Dabo became OC at Clemson when he took over as interim HC in 2008.

Which is another reason why we should shock the world and hire Peyton Manning.

^This. OPs point still remains he just stated it wrong. Should be...

"Name a successful college head coach who wasn't a genius on one side of the ball"

Its really a matter of turn over. If your HC isnt one of the best at either O or D then thats both sides of the ball that is going to have major and consistent coordinating turnover any time you have success. You cant sustain success that way. As soon as your coordinators are successful they leave for a HC job. You need to lock down one side of the ball with a HC hire. Aranda wouldnt be the end of the world for that reason. Have no idea how he would handle HC administratively or if hes even the leadership type but at least you wouldnt have to constantly be looking for the next big DC hire.
