For next year-Coach Ed O as Head Coach, hire Briles as an OC for a year(perfect position given his coaching abilities and it doesn't require him to be the face of the program), then wait until Herman becomes more available, extend an offer, everyone's happy.

I know it may seem tricky for recruiting, but I'd be willing to wait two years for a coach that will bring great results for 10+ years.

Yeah, let's waste another year. Sounds good.

What do you mean "Herman becomes more available??"

And NO NO NO to Briles. Always. For every position.

Not a good idea. You don't want UT becomes "more available" next year. Can't compete with them for Herman.

How would it be wasting a year?

Has a team ever hired a staff for one year, just to wait for another candidate after that? That would be the dumbest thing i've ever heard.

Stop trying to complicate things. Just go hire the best coach you can hire and play some football.

(and that should not be ed orgeron )

Recruiting for one...and are you seriously wanting to teach the players a new system/philosophy next year, just to bring in someone else with a completely different system the next year?

A coaches first year is usually not their best, because they are getting their players and philosophy installed. You would be wasting next year.

I'm thinking its not as different as it seems. Also, like I said, it would give us the best guy, and the guy who would be here long term, and not risk hiring just whos available for the sake of having a coach.

Not always. Larry Coker won a national championship at Miami in his first year as head coach.

Les Miles went 11-2 and 11-2 in his first two years at LSU.

Jim Harbaugh went 10-3 at Michigan in his first year.

Urban meyer went 12-0 in his first year at Ohio State.

Nope, not at all. Hence why I said "GIVEN THE CIRCUMSTANCES".

When the Big 12 situation is clearly off the table for UH. LSU simply cannot speak to him right now, and maybe not even at the end of the season, and if they get a chat after bowl season is through, which would mean no coach is hired, and recruiting is shot this year anyways, Herman still may not say yes. If Herman is the guy, this is the best route.

If LSU wants Herman, they may have no choice. Wait around to talk and you screw up recruiting anyways.

If you wait until January/December to hire a coach you may be screwing over recruiting anyways. Just FYI. Les Miles was hired in December and was only able to sign 13 guys in his first class that signing day.
