Matt Canada- not a propsect coach, but a career position coach/coordinator

Do we just want all sluggish hires? I thought LSU wanted to best upcoming talent?

Matt Canada has been at OC level since 1997, and has received no head coach offers. What is this board seeing that no other schools see?

Is this the same mindset that got Ed O hired?

Lastly, why would Matt Canada come to LSU? He's coached in Big 10 territory his entire coaching life (20 years). The furthest south he went was NC State, and he got fired.

Does anyone care about track records anymore?

What's his track record?

I am fine with a career OC if he's a good OC.

Kiffin is a fricking terrible HC but he would have been an all time great OC if he stuck to it.

He also started At OC when he was 25. He's only 44 too. Not everyone is ready to be a HC when they are younger.

Kiffin is not really a "career OC". I would take him all day over Matt Canada, who has been truly a career OC.

I'm tired of these hires. Damnit. Why doesn't LSU want the best and brightest?

I guess it would just prove the line of thinking at LSU.

Yeah Kiffin isn't a career OC.

He should be though because he is a bad HC.

FWIW Canada is relatively young and the only OC nominated for the Broyles award. So it's. It like he is a 58 year old who has never gone anywhere.

Because he isn't a very good one. He was fired from NCST last year.

He was an OC at Butler when he was 25 years old and is only 44 years old now. He is the 2nd youngest finalist for the Broyles award this year and the only offensive coach among them.

quote:

Pitt offensive coordinator Matt Canada has been named one of five finalists for the Broyles Award, given annually to the top assistant coach in college football.

Canada is the only offensive coach in the group, which also includes defensive coordinators Jeremy Pruitt (42) (Alabama), Brent Venables (45) (Clemson), Jim Leavitt (59) (Colorado) and Don Brown (61) (Michigan).

ETA: Herman was an OC for 10 years, won the Broyles at 39 and became a HC the following year. This isn't to say Canada is some amazing hire, but you're making it sound like he is Bud Foster who has been a coordinator for 20+ years and is probably now too old to be considered for a HC job.

And their offense is worse this year. They were 3rd in the ACC in scoring last year. They are 9th this year

So here is his track record as OC:

Pitt:

NC State:

LINK

quote:

North Carolina State offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Matt Canada has been let go after three seasons, according to sources.

The surprising move by Wolfpack coach Dave Doeren comes on the heels of his team being third in the ACC in scoring this season (33.2 points per game) behind only North Carolina and Clemson. That ranks 38th in the FBS this season.
The Wolfpack also had 2,659 rushing yards last year, the fourth highest total in school history. The past two seasons Canada has also helped rejuvenate the career of graduating starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett.

Wisconsin/N. Illinois

quote:

Prior to Canada’s arrival at North Carolina State with Doeren, Canada was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Wisconsin’s 2012 Big Ten championship team and Northern Illinois’ 2011 MAC title team.

quote:

The furthest south he went was NC State, and he got fired.

And that fire is still suspect. Their offense wasn't bad as evidenced above.

Pitt is currently 8th in the CFB for ppg. They have balanced run and pass. He develops qbs and adjusts his offense to the talent available. He's also not a PR nightmare like kiffin and briles.

I mean did you actually research this guy or just read a paragraph in Wikipedia about how he was fired from a job?

Eta: if you do the math that means he was an OC at the age of 25. Pretty impressive if you ask me.

The sport is littered with career coordinators throughout the NCAA and NFL. Not every coordinator is a good HC. This is the weakest argument I've ever heard.

You have no clue if Aranda will make a good HC.

Muschamp?
Sharp?
Leavitt?

You wouldn't want these guys for DC?

I want Tony Petersen, Art Briles, or a young up-and-comer.

Tony Petersen is 50, but every place he has coached, his QBs have set records. This is the guy that developed Pennington, Leftwich, and msde Jeff Driskel actually get drafted. Plus he recruited and coached in Louisiana at LA Tech from 2013-2015.

Art Briles is a no brainer and I would take him 100%. There isn't anything to say to convince anybody that we should go after him 1st and foremost.

Oklahoma pays Lincoln Riley 850k, LSU could pay 1.3-5k. He's a very young guy (33). He's from under the Mike Leach air raid tree, but Stoops has him heavily involve the RBs. Seems like he is up for some HC jobs, but at least reach out to him.

If not Art Briles, why not son Kendal?

How do you know this?

Maybe he does not want to be a head coach. There are plenty of guys out there that don't.

Dude, you're seriously bordering on all time whiny bitch territory. Just stfu already. It's apparent by the excessive downvotes on every thread you start that no one wants to hear your hot take, and your opinions are fricking shite.

So is this the CC board selection now? Anyone else is a disappointment and ensuing melt when it doesn't happen?
