Is that supposed to make us sad or something?

Because I gotta tell you, after the 2000's where we peaked at nine wins, averaging nine wins sounds nice.

My point was that it's still early to crown Sumlin as a great coach. He's proven he's a good coach in his tenure in the college football, but A&M paying him that much after going 19-6 his first two years was a bit sad. He may turn out to be the next coming, but I think they took a huge risk that is more likely to blow up in their face than succeed at the expectations his contract will bring.

Yes, A&M has been down, but just because they are a little up again doesn't mean they will now become title contenders. Manziel is a once in a decade talent and they still finished 3rd/4th in their division the past two years.

Yes that's true but in both those years we had a very bare cupboard on the defensive side. So before y'all condemn us to permanent cellar dwellers and Sumlin as a mediocre coach let him get a few classes in of his kids and lets see what happens. As far as paying him to much, yeah we may be, but we decided he's our guy and in todays cfb world sometimes you gotta pay to play. Time will tell if we did the right thing or not.

Obviouly I am an Aggie fan but the rumors around Sumlin seem kind of out there. Last time I checked the Ags defense was ranked something like #102.

Has any major school ever went out and hired a head coach and made them one of the highest paid coaches in college football with a defense like that? His D wasn't very good at all at UH and Ags D was/is awful.

There hve to be some questions regarding Sumlin's ability to field a good D. IF Texas is really looking at Sumlin then they have been rejected by 4 or 5 coaches that we don't know about.

My opinion anyway.

I don't think I've ever seen a "Don't hire our guy, he sucks" post before. And it was serious.

Wow.

Because 1 player makes a team?

Defense being shite meant it didn't matter if we had God himself at QB, we weren't going to win them all. And when Johnny played a good amount of this season hurt, that once in a decade talent failed.

Again, I am not saying A&M is mediocre. They are a solid program with a ton of potential. To think Manziel, Evans, Matthews, and Joekel were not key cogs to their success is a big issue. Think about the fact that A&M has had two OTs in the last two seasons that will go top 5 in the draft their respective years. Evans is a beast. Manziel has been a major surprise. Funny thing is all were recruited by Sherman.

Anyhow, A&M will be a tough out for anyone in the coming years, but A&M has 1 win against a ranked SEC opponent in 2-6 against ranked teams in the past two seasons. That isn't 2nd highest paid coach in the SEC worthy.

We weren't paying him for his current on field results. We are paying him the money for:

1. His help boosting our brand.

2. His recruiting.

3. (The big one) To have a guarantee of competitiveness and stability as we dump more money into our stadium than any building in the state of Louisiana is worth.

I mean, Sumlin is making 1% of the upgrade bill. That is worth it just to help sell suites to our big donors before the 2015 launch.

Money is relative. Texas just paid Mack Brown for four years at that rate for average football. And until this year it was worth it for them as they made more money than anyone.

We are building a program. We need consistency. And it is our money so who cares how we spend it?

Plus we are making a statement: We are SEC, We in Texas, and We overpay! It is our bid to be a top 15 job going forward which eventually means a top 15 program. We have money but no history. So frick it we gonna spend it to step forward.

that's rich considering how awful Kyle field looks. I guess when your stadium looks like a tackle box, it costs a lot more money to put lipstick on that pig...

Sure I will admit it. Current Kyle is a piece. The renovations are important.
