They've been talking about him coming to Maryland on the radio around here. Strangely enough, most of the MD fans that call in support the move.

Mack isn't a bad coach and would do well at a mid major.

I agree. I bet his motivation, which seemed to be an issue at UTex, would be much improved at a smaller p5 team.

I doubt a P5 school would go after but wouldn't necessarily be a bad hire by one of these smaller schools.

Yes, it's not right to discriminate against our seniors.

I think he could do well at a place where a recruiter can overcome a weak league.

He might be able to get Tulane a little further along.

Surely he could do better than Curtis Johnson.

Why would we hire another old coach?

Does Mack want to coach anymore? Has a nice, easy job as an analyst and plenty of bank.

I'll pose the same question I posed to Texas fans last year in regards to Saban.

Do you really want a 64 year old to come in when you know at max he's there maybe 3 years?

I don't see any P5 school going that route. He might end up at North Texas or go back to Tulane but he's not gonna get another big job at his age and if he did you wouldn't have him long enough to build and sustain a program.

Mack is not a rebuilding coach anymore. He got complacent and tired of the grunt work every Head Coach still needs to do. Mack fell into a comfortability rubbing elbows with boosters and media at cocktail parties, entertaining on the golf course and hosting events. Over the years, less recruiting trips, less in-home visits, less coaching, and more the CEO of the Horns. He was grooming himself to be an AD, and had the team not imploded, he may have gotten his wish.

I dont see him trading in his lifestyle now for anything other than an AD type position....or what he does now, TV/media analyst

IF he was up to it, he'd clean house at V Tech with that fertile recruiting base

I think Mack is a good coach. He was made the scapegoat at UT. But he's 64 years old....I'm not sure he'd be the hire for somewhere that needs a rebuild.

Maybe if theres a school that already has some talent piled up and they can't find the right guy that they feel is a long term fit Mack could be brought in. Think South Carolina or USC. Fairly talented teams. Bring in an experienced coach for a few years and then look at coaching candidates in a few more years. Although I think USCe is ready to move beyond the old former national champion coach model.
