LSU should've waited until later in the year to pull the trigger on Les

At least they'd be able to see how the season shaked out for other schools and what the bidding competition will be. They should be able to get a good HC, but by firing Les four games in, they're locked in to paying more money to get what they want.

I would have waited and Miles would have met his replacement on the way out.

Alleva should have acted like his job was safe and we weren't firing him then introduced the new coach and said goodbye to Miles all in the same day.

No. Our season was going nowhere with Les and Cam running the offense. We can still salvage something by tweaking things on Offense that Miles/Cam were incapable of doing. And this coming from a pro Miles guy who feels he was once a good coach who simply burned out.

By doing it early LSU has the opportunity via back channels to find out who is really very interested, what the true price tag is going to be and prepare itself for what they need to do. Even if a Texas and USC jumps in the coaching search we are already in good position and ahead of them to have an effective plan.

So you can't search back channels while still having a coach?

BTW USC will keep their coach or they will not get a great coach to come there for a long time.

Nah, we should've fired him after the A&M game last year. Then, we'd have a new coach already. We wasted a year for zero reason.

No doubt! But this is a clusterfrick we have going on right now. Because if O wins most games they will want to keep him and that will be a mistake.

Makes it easier and the other side opens up when it is known that there is an opening. Back channel searching happens a lot. But when the position is not yet open things aren't as serious. Agents and coaches through their agents have a different attitude and are less vague about their true interests when they know it is serious and not just planning. It is like when you are shopping your home. Shooting the bull with folks at a BBQ or casual talk among neighbors about your intentions to sell is a different animal than when the for sale sign goes up and the brochures on your house get passed out.

Is there some rule that says the longer you look for a coach the more you have to pay them?

It's complete nonsense. Being able to search freely this early is a huge benefit. Last year we caught shite for searching behind the scenes and trying to scoop up Jimbo. Now we have months to search wherever we want without having to hide it and look shady.

What about if Miles would have won most of his games after his 2-2 start? To retain him would also be a mistake.

All it took was one game last year for the media and some loud fans to beg for Miles' job. If Coach O loses at least two games, we have all the reason in the world to replace him and can cite USC for doing the same thing.

It didn't work out well for us in the public view last year...
