Interesting. Why's he punting his head coaching career?

You’ll start to see more of this because of the ever-widening gap between G5 and P2 TV revenue.

P2 coordinator positions will pay dramatically more than G5 head jobs, and the gap between P2 head salaries and G5 head salaries will be so large, it will put ADs off from hiring a head coach straight from the G5.

Not exactly the best resume I’ve seen

Neither is Sloan’s, but people are clamoring for him to be OC.

So he has had top 50 defenses at indiana and top 40 or better defenses at south alabama including too 25 the last 2 years. Seems solid.

It's fascinating that we get to see the answer to a lot of peoples' questions "What would 'this' coaching staff look like with much better talent?"

In Bama's case, it will be the 2019 Indiana team.

Some serious spinning going on in here to make this seem like an elite hire. It’s average. The days of everything Bama (Saban) touching turning to gold are over.

They did the same thing when DeBoer was announced. Half the secondary just jumped in the portal. Give it a day.

I'm hoping he sucks, but seems like a good move by the new coach. Desperate for somebody anybody with local recruiting ties, so he hired the only guy he knew.

I had a feeling that he was going to be gone either this year or next year.

This could go either way. If DeBoer is a good read of coaches and their potential similar to Saban then this could be a great hire for them. But it will require him to have a really good 2024 on Def for it to really get the recruiting trail flowing to Bama. Without a really well known name at DC this could negatively impact the recruiting until he shows his worth.

But it could be a bad hire for recruiting if the def takes a big step back and has losses to the portal. DeBoer is taking a risk with the hire not being a big name. But he must be convinced of Wommack's ability in order to take this risk.

Alabama is just another school now. Coaching under Saban is no longer a thing. Tuscaloosa isn’t some hot spot location.

Kind of how I view it.

I’m leaning towards it not really working out but we will see.

I thought Womack did well in recruiting for South Alabama. Take that for what it is worth. He went hard after local talent but now that he's left, maybe some of his recruits do also?
