Is he banned from coaching for any length of time by the NCAA as a result of the tOSU sanctions?
If not, why is his name not mentioned in SEC coaching search circles?

I think it's 2 or 3 yrs he's unable to coach.

He is able to coach, but the school that is wanting to hire him has to go before the NCAA because of his show cause and be willing to take on a share of Ohio St.'s sanctions and penalties.

This explains his penalty..
Tressel was hit with a five-year, show-cause penalty for covering up rules violations, using ineligible players and lying to the NCAA. Show-cause penalties are supposed to be poison. Why would Kentucky go anywhere near him?
Tressel’s penalty is not as severe as, say, former Tennessee basketball coach Bruce Pearl’s. Tressel is allowed to recruit. He is allowed to hire a staff. He is required to sit out five weeks of meetings, practices and games before he can coach, and he cannot coach a bowl game in his first year — but these are trifles for the likes of Kentucky.

I could see a program that is not close to being decent(Kentucky, Colorado, etc..) giving him a shot..But, if he gets caught cheating just a little, then the program would get blasted by the NCAA..

Tressel wouldn't need to do anything risky at Kentucky - he is a huge upgrade over their last two coaches.
He wouldn't need to do anything but show up at Colorado

If he ever coached again; I would highly doubt that he would something like that again.
He would be a good hire at Kentucky or Colorado and by the time the sanctions are lifted, he would have the program built back up.

Kentucky would make more sense than Colorado, geographically. But I don't think UK wants to give the NCAA any excuse to start turning over rocks in their athletic dept. Regardless of sport.

Considering we were on probation in the 2000's, I don't see how UK could even consider him. I find it hard to believe that he would ever be considered at UK.

Whether Kentucky or Tennessee, Tressel would be winning in a couple of years. The guy can recruit and is a proven winner.
I just hope that if he ever gets another chance to coach, he will not make the same mistake again.

Why would the third time be the charm? He did almost the exact same thing (the cover up) at Youngstown state but only beat the rap because the NCAA's statue of limitations had run out.
