i'm all for going for the top tier - fisher, herman, petrino. probably can cross herman and petrino off the list, though. who else is available top flight that meshes with our program, conference, and fan base?

While guys like fedora have some pluses, they also have negatives. which is what you've got with O. And we know O will do a helluva job recruiting. he has learned and is going to have the checkbook to hire top assistants. great motivator, not stubborn, many qualities.

let's let it play out, but if the top picks don't come, I don't see the rationale for taking an outsider just because he's got a decent resume.

So we go without a coach if we can't get top tier?

As opposed to an "insider" who has a resume that consists of a being a Dline Coach and failed Head Coach? You're logic seems a bit flawed.

the mental gymnastics people on here do in order to rationalize orgeron as head coach is amusing.

you guys want a top coach, someone you'd be proud of getting. IF WE CAN'T GET ONE, then why would you want to go second tier INSTEAD of letting coach O have the reins?

that is not an unreasonable question.

I understand the rationale that wants top notch, not just a guy with a "decent" resume. that may not be possible.

I am forced to conclude that the irrational attitude displayed against coach O is not based on facts, but emotion. somehow you feel it would be too embarrassing to hire him. I don't get that exactly, but that's OK with me if you feel that way.

In my mind, he is as good or better than any of the second tier guys.

I'm just going to accept the idea that the job will be given to him if he goes 2-2 or better, so I won't be let down. When IMO he should have to win out. If he can't beat the best teams in the SEC with the talent and leadership on this team, he never will. IMO

Herman is NOT top tier. He may be one day, but he IS NOT a top tier candidate currently.

That is just wrong though.

Second tier guys have recent head coaching experience and success or is a coordinator at a major program.

Coach O is neither.

He's still not my top choice (yet), but I'm sick of the bashing. I've been taking and 'wait and see' approach and love what I'm seeing!

i don't see the rationale for taking an insider despite his terrible resume.

i want coach O to succeed.. go to a smaller school, destroy people, and then come back and be the head coach at LSU in 5-6 years

By definition, everyone except O is an outsider and i guess you can say Jimbo. So they should be the the only options?
