We have a guy that:
Won't bolt for NFL or another college job

Will most likely retire here

Recruits nationally

Has attracted coordinators O/LSU couldn't pull in (Freeman)

Is competent

Look, I wanted Lane really bad, I am glad we have an AD that doesn't listen to dumbasses like me.

Let's ride!

A trait you expect every college hc to have but somehow we couldn’t get right.

This is exactly what I was thinking. He is clearly here because he reached his max at ND, and now he wants a championship.

The fact that we have someone competent who isn't a damn cartoon character for the first time in nearly 2 decades is refreshing, and I feel like this was subtly a tremendous hire.

I didn’t love the hire at first. Now, let’s fricking ride!

The way I look at it, LSU hired 2 absolute buffoons over the past 15 years and were pretty dominant for the most part. Now they bring in a guy who has a nice track record and by all accounts seems pretty football intelligent. Is it the most sexy hire, no, but because of the above reasons I am cautiously excited lol.

In the myriad of BK articles I have been reading this morning, three things stand out:

1. He demands discipline (something we haven't seen since 2005).
2. He recruits and develops O-linemen consistently.
3. His players don't opt out or transfer (rarely).

I'm backing away from the ledge. Let's geaux...

Amazing what happens after you stop emotionalizing the decision and look at the metrics.

The man has won everywhere. He was no 10-28 at his last job.
He runs a good program and his players are well coached.

BOOM!!! Here is our splash/white whale. Woodward is a magician.

A lot of this has to do with the fact that he was at Notre Dame. Kids that go there typically want that degree as there is prestige in that diploma. On the flip side, LSU recruits top notch athletes that plan on sticking it out for 3 years until they can jump to the NFL. UNLESS...they are really good and only have to put 2 years of play on film and then they'll just sit out their junior year.

Different type of athlete. It's much easier to keep those 2 and 3 starts in school to get that Notre Dame diploma.
