Yup, and to add if you were to have Texas alumni that are coaches your choices would be:
- Major Applewhite

....and that's it.

Texas is the best job in the country, arguably, certainly top 3.

Michigan isnt a top 10 job at this point IMO.

Yet Texas had to settle for probably the 5th or 6th guy on their list.

Just the way circumstances lined up?

8M and they found a Michigan man who was available.

I really think Saban to Texas was a done deal...in the books...until boosters starting mouthing off to the media and wanting attention for it then Saban got a taste of the 'Dallas Cowboys' type atmosphere over there and grew cold feet. No doubt in my mind at one point Saban had made up his mind to go to Austin.

Really is it hard to fathom an alum wanting to help his school out?

Michigan opening became open at the right time for the school and Harbaugh.

Plain and simple Mack Brown would not simply role over...he drug it out and Saban was not going to go thru another long media ordeal....Mack cost them their man.

Mack Brown was able to drag it out because Texas didn't have the stones to just come out and fire him outright, like Michigan did Brady Hoke. Texas wanted Mack Brown to resign and he refused to make it that easy for them to kick him to the curb.

Because Texas' number one choice hadn't just been fired.

Texas isn't the top job in the country anyway. More money than any program....but their admin doesn't have the passion other schools have (kudos to them).

Michigan got a young alum without a job. Texas was trying to poach a coach from another top school who has created a dynasty and will probably retire in 5 years.
