FWIW, it was much easier to win at FSU when Jimbo first arrived

Obviously there's more to the situation, but let's look at the past, current and future landscapes of some key football programs:
-Mark Richt @ Miami is a huge blow to Jimbo's recruiting pipeline down there. He's not a pushover like Shannon or Golden. No more Dalvin Cooks, Kelvin Benjamins, etc either. Turns into a 50/50 game every year.
-He's gotta deal with Bobby Petrino, every year. His DC problem won't go away on it's own.
-Clemson, Swinney aren't going anywhere. He'll usually beat him but it's turning into a 2 out of 3 kind of proposition.
-McElwain is an upgrade over Muschamp at UF.
There was a time when 3 of those games would have been gimmies every year. Now all 4 of those games will be competitive on an annual basis. The days where he could run Jimmy Sexton out there to bluff and come back with a better deal may be over for the foreseeable future.
On the other hand, what will the SEC west look like once Saban retires? He is 64 years old and has nothing left to prove. This perpetual roadblock to the CFB will be out of the picture.
If there was a time for Jimbo to change horses, this may be it.

Richt and McElwain aint exactly loading up on blue chip recruits

And we pony up the dough for some good DC's that he can't get at FSU. Hell, his job would be easier with Aranda here already. He can literally keep the defensive coaches intact and have much more success than at FSU. Louisville isn't putting up 63 against our defense.

So he is scared of Richt but Saban is no biggie?
You might want to rethink that one.
Plus UF is down, that is the real competition.

He didn't say he wasn't scared of Saban, just they Saban will be retiring soon in all likelihood

You don't need to be undefeated here to make the playoffs and on a down year maybe even 2 losses will get you in as well.

Is there any source on that other than that picture of a little girl making a wish?

I think Richt is going to build a fence around Miami.
When you can't get whoever you want when you want out of So Florida, the effects will trickle down.

He never built a fence around Georgia, and Richt can't undo a decade of abandonment that Miami's program has faced overnight.

I was in that camp for awhile as well. But things have changed, IMO. His 1m dollar donation for their indoor facility showed how dedicated he is to returning his former alma mater to glory. Recruits, HS coaches, boosters and alum see that and respond accordingly. Plus Shalalala is gone, she was a PITA. I fear they were down but not out, and have a guy who is a perfect fit for those kids and program.

It's gonna take a lot more than a million. Hell that won't even build our jacuzzi room. They need like $100 million to catch up to other top programs, maybe more.
