if the guys name was Derek Jones or something he would had never sniffed a HC job.

I disagree, at the time a lot of people though it was a great hire.
A lot of people were stupid at the time

Young up and coming coach. Doing a good job a Tech, with absolutely nothing. A lot of people though with Tennessee's resources he would be a grand slam.
He had just finished a 4-8 season when UT hired him. People bought into the pedigree.

He left LTU way too early.

I just don't get why Tennessee thought he was such hot shite to hire him away from LaTech.
At some point, Tech is going to run out of sons of 'famous coaches' that they can hire. This Skip Holtz hire looks like a smoldering dumpster fire. I watched their game against UTSA in person and it just was not good. They have literally no offense with the good running back out.

What did he do that was so amazing at La Tech as AD?
A lot of facilities upgrades took place across the board while he was AD.

maybe as a position coach. dude is one of the worst hires in SEC history.
This.
No way that guy ever sniffs an FBS job again. Maybe someone at the FCS or Div. II tries to lure him in, but he's done at this level.

They didn't, they just couldn't land anyone after Kiffin left the dumpster fire he did and Dooley was their 4097659745th choice.
Plus, people forget this, but Kiffin left really late in the game for USC. You have to fire and hire early or you'll be left out in the cold, and Kiffin didn't bolt for LA until January, which pretty much tied UT's hands as far as a replacement.

If the skip holtz experiment doesn't work out. La Tech should just rehire him. Hell, at least he'll accept the bowl invitation if he can get to 6-7 wins

IMO, he was a better AD at Tech than football coach.
Completely agree, I worked under him in the athletic department and tech has him to thank for being halfway decent at all other sports now. The guy was never a great x and o coach but he was a great AD for a school like tech.

1 winning season. This is a classic case of a guy moving up before he was ready.

But he did a good job at Tech and I agree he wasn't ready to move up. In his first game at Tech, he lost to Hawaii by 1 when he decided to go for 2 right at the end of the game; they missed it obviously. Hawaii went to the Sugar Bowl that year.
A rebuilding C-USA/Sunbelt teams should look at him.

Wasn't his first game and he lost that game in overtime. He had some good games as a coach, but any tech fan will tell you he wasn't great with in game coaching.

Don't forget that Kiffin essentially robbed what he could of the cupboard when he left. Everyone knew Tennessee was going to be behind from Dooleys start, he just could never recover.

Not really. He recruited shitheads so half of them flamed out but if Kiffin hadn't turned Tyler Bray Dooley probably never wins an SEC game.

Jeremiah Masoli may have thrown enough touchdown passes to our defense for us to beat Ole Miss in 2010, but the than that, you're probably right.
The only way Dooley should be allowed back into Tennessee is if one of our opponents is stupid enough to let him on their coaching staff.
