I didn't say he would but the guy has a huge ego. You can't rule it out.

I could really see this happening, the program is really bad off and they will not get any larger names, why not if you are WF

The effects of Butch Davis at UNC are felt in the region. No way they bring in another dirt bag tot he State after that. Also, BP did not just screw an employee, which is bad, he broke the law in the way he hired her and then lied to his AD about the accident and did not tell him what happened until it was too late. He broke confidence with his administration. He is FUBAR for a major school.

If Muschamp doesn't hire a brilliant OC and they go 6-6 or something like that next year, I think they'd be crazy not to hire Petrino. He would absolutely tear it up in Gainesville.

Though it is unsubstantiated, there is supposedly some interest in Petrino from Rutgers if / when they fire Kyle Flood this year.

I doubt it would happen because of his "bad reputation" - which is nonsense, IMO, since he's never had academic or financial scandals, he just had a mistress - and I doubt Rutgers is going to pay $2M+ that it would likely take to get him.

I would be happy if they did hire him, however - he can keep more New Jersey players in state, and in the 2-3 years before he jumps ship to a better opportunity, he'd probably win a lot of games.

I said the same thing about how he flirted with Auburn......and how he left Louisville......and how he left the Falcons.

Plus, and most people don't know this, he practically dared Long and Gearhart to fire him because he thought they didn't have the balls to do it given his success. They called his bluff and canned him, ergo Long's line in his presser about how "no one person is above the program."

Don't believe the PR tour BS -- Petrino wasn't sorry, and it's why he was practically begging Auburn, Tennessee, Kentucky and Colorado for a shot and they all told him to eff off.

People need to understand that Petrino left his last THREE jobs on very public and very nasty terms. He'll probably surface again at a place like a lower tier Pac-12 school or an AAC school that can take the risk, but I'd argue that the fact that the last two Hog teams have been absolute dumpster fires have scared even more potential suitors away.

Story goes that the Auburn people asked him how he'd do things differently in the future with regards to the coed situation and he refused to talk about it, much less apologize, so they hung up on him.

UCF is the king of damaged goods coaches. Hopefully we hire him when George O'Leary retires.

That's interesting, I hadn't heard that specifically. I did hear that there was a conference call with Auburn's search committee, which he essentially begged for, and that it didn't go well. Also heard that after he had pissed them off - which jives with your story - he realized that he'd effed up and begged for the chance to come to Auburn and meet with them (he offered to pay for the trip and to bring his wife) and they told him to get lost.

I hate Auburn, but I definitely gained a measure of respect for them after that.

Agreed. Florida can recruit on its own. It needs a genius coach.
