The dude has had multiple stops in P5 calling his own Defense as both a Coordinator and a Head Coach. He took Vandy to a Bowl Game as a HC after firing his DC mid-year in a make-or-break season and assuming DC Playcalling and flat out said, "I can do it better myself," and then put his money where his mouth was.

Put his job on the line and cut nuts and led Vandy to a bowl-season after he did it.

I'll say this again: He took Vandy to a bowl game. Not just one, either. He took VANDY to two bowl games.

Think about how effing difficult that is, people.

He has run a 30 front and a 40 front scheme in the P5 and been successful. He was known as the guy who began figuring out the Spread Concepts before anyone else and shifted alignments to do it.

He's also been an NFL Position Coach and has more chops than our Head Coach from both the NFL, DC and Head Coaching perspectives*

*I'm not saying he's better. Really just pointing out the abject idiocy and ignorance amongst the userbase of this website.

IMHO this is who the new DC will be.

Not terrible, just wonder how well he can game plan & recruit.

LSU history with ex-Stanford or ex-Vandy coaches not great. Mason is both.

Let's spend the past 12 months recruiting for a defense the new defensive coordinator doesn't run. Genius.

He take a role similar to Strong has with Bama. Not the DC position.

Sure there may be younger options out there, but we could do a lot worse than Mason. Would not be a bad hire at all.

He just turned 51 and is coming off of a 7 year tenure as an SEC Head Coach. He got hired as a HC in the SEC as a 44 year old. He got hired as a DC 8 years ago as a 43 year old. He was a Co-DC as a 42 year old.

He was a Broyles Finalist in his early 40's. Dumbass.
