James Franklin's success is mostly based on a bunch of historical powers falling off a cliff. Sure, he's doing well for Vandy. He still hasn't won anything or beaten a legitimately good team. I'll be pissed if the Titans hire him.

True, but then 11-2, 12-1. Isn't 7-6 better than 4-8 the last season before he was hired?

The last two records is why I said earlier that he caught lightening in a bottle getting Bridgewater.

Would have loved to see what he would have done at UL post Bridgewater. May also explain why he left...

I think Franklin is getting way to much credit. It wasn't very long ago he was sucking it up as an OC at Maryland and K State

How can you not give him a lot of credit? He coaches at Vandy and has gone 9-4 in consecutive seasons, and won 2 bowl games. Should have gone to a better bowl than the BBVA this year.

People can try to downplay Franklin's success all they want, but he's having unprecedented success at Vandy! It's never been done before.

Proof? Link? Anything at all to back up this assertion?

I don't think so. It's a fair statement.

Texas made a good hire.

Just heard through the grapevine. No need to shoot the messenger. If you know the story, would you mind sharing?

No shooting, just asking. CJF has already been publicly cleared of any wrong doing by the DA. This happened months ago.

Has James Franklin won more than 2 games against ranked teams? I'd bet he has. Guess who hasn't? Charlie Strong.

Nope. All I've got is UGA this year.

He is nothing special. Texas hiring him would have been a disaster of Dooleyesque proportions.

Franklin has done a nice job energizing the fan base and in recruiting. He still hasnt proven much besides Vandy can be Mississippi State- to be sure a huge step from where that program has been.

Vandys success, while lovely for them, boils down to 2 factors:

1) they finally started scheduling rent a wins to get bowl eligibility

2) very weak East- historic nadir for UT, UF's worst stretch in 30 years, Richt losing control of everything. When SC has been the best team in that division over the last 4 years, something terrible is going on.

Strong isn't a home run or anything, but I take him every time over Franklin

Franklin is a very average X and O guy, but a phenomenal recruiter and politician.

Strong has more experience at the highest levels, very respected D coordinator, and also a very good recruiter.

He also isn't a liability in the press.

Yep, and Texas just got rid of a guy with those same traits. Clear change of direction.

Has more to do with the HC than anything.

They hired the better football coach.

I don't get the a Franklin hype, he's done a good job but the East is weak and he's a loose cannon.

Those guys that rely on rah-rah emotion usually end up getting exposed.

This is false and calling the East weak is a bit of joke. Sure Tennessee isn't an elite program. But, UGA,USCe,UF & now Mizzou are difficult to deal with in that division.
