Michigan hires Hoke, not Harbaugh or Miles

quote:

Brandon insisted Hoke was always Plan A. What about Miles or Jim Harbaugh, who left Stanford for the NFL's San Francisco 49ers?

"The job was never offered to them," Brandon said in an interview with The Associated Press. "We did have different discussions with them that were helpful and positive."

FWIW, I realize it conflicts with earlier stories...

Either he is full of shite or they never offered because they knew they wouldn't pay what it would take to hire a top notch coach.

They want to try and spin it so that they never offered Miles, ok thats one thing. To try and spin it like Hoke was the choice of Harbaugh that's laughable

Brandon: Soooo, "hypothetically", what would it take for you to leave?

Miles: 6 years, at 5.2 million and larger assistant salaries

B: Hmmmmm, not 5 years at 4 million and slightly higher assistant money?

M: Naaaah..."hypothetically", I'd turn that down.

B: Thank you for your time. We are NOT offering.

He has to say that. If not Hoke would be getting asked how does it feel to be Michigan's 3rd choice. Also Michigan doesn't want their fans to think 2 others turned them down....but they did.

This honestly does make him look worse, because it's both a lie, and if it was true, it'd be completely stupid.

Joe Schad is breathing a sigh of relief, though!

And we wonder why generation after generation of U.S. Americans continue to decline. "It depends on what the definition of is is"

He'd feel pretty god damn awesome to know that he is at a much better school making an arse load of money.

Who the hell cares how many other coaches were asked first, just as long as the checks don't bounce. On top of that, IF he wins, it would make it that much sweeter.

To me, I would not care what anyone would think about me being a second, third, or fourth choice.

Hoke knows he wasn't their first choice. Michigan wants to put up a front that he was IMO. Think about recruiting....coaches that are recruiting same kids as michigan can say that UM didn't even get their first choice etc..

You won't buy anything that makes Miles look bad.

Nobody else wants our coach, and evidently we're willing to extend his contract indefinitely.

Just go ahead and be happy, Choctaw. You've got your man, and we've all got Big10 style football for another decade at least.

It's not that complicated, people. Black Helicopter pretty much has it right -- not only in this situation but in pretty much any high-profile hire. You discuss terms then make the offer when you are sure the candidate will accept.
