Said on the Russillo pod that he was consulted on the hire and have some tidbits.

-said Napier was never a choice
-deal with Kelly was just about wrapped up until Riley smoke from Trace Armstrong came up
-after Riley picked USC, deal with BK was locked up late Saturday, early Sunday

Interesting that Booger was consulted. He didn’t go into much detail on his involvement, out of respect he said.

I like Boog but…

I’m sure close-to-the-vest Woodward consulted a National talking head who is literally on television or radio 16 hours out of any given day….

I disagree. When you have a lot of prominent ex-players like LSU, there's bound to be a few involved.

Who do you think led the current changes taking place at Miami right now?

Former players being involved in the program is a big deal.

I mean there could be varying degrees of input. I don’t think Booger was in the war room and vetting, but a phone call saying hey who do you like is plausible.

Yeah that seems odd. My first thought was that maybe their time at LSU overlapped, but Booger was drafted before Woodward came to work for the university in 2000. I guess it’s possible that they still have some sort of long-standing relationship but that feels like a hell of a trust fall for someone trying NOT to let any info get out.

Did he say what he thought of the hire at least?

Very positive on the hire. Gave it 8.5-9/10.

Boy, I hope we don't regret this one, although we will have a head to head look into each season.

I don’t think he’s saying there’s anything wrong with involving former players, just that it would be surprising for Woodward to involve a full time ESPN employee when he’s intentionally keeping things quiet outside of a (reportedly) very small circle.

Not that I think Booger would necessarily leak anything. The guy bleeds purple and gold. But you never know.

If napier hires a good oc i think he will do very well at florida.

The guy can coach. That much is clear.

He also said he wanted Mel Tucker. Which tells you all you need to know about Boogers input. Said he wanted to go in a “different direction.”

Why do people keep saying this? Could Napier be really great… yes. If you have a chance to hire Kelly over Napier… you pick Kelly 100-100 times.

I believe The athletic piece said there was only 1 booster and 1 trusted LSU admin that had any idea the progress with Kelly.

He can coach against Sunbelt coaches earning an average of $800,000 a year at schools whose football programs operate at a deficit. No one has any clue whether he can coach against the best coaches in the country at programs that generate huge amounts of revenue.

He better be ready for the week in week out grind of the SEC. Luckily for him he'll be going against the weaker East teams and a weak FSU.

Rich and influential ex players and alumni who have access to coaches all across the country working for one of the biggest media corporations in the world definitely get asked their opinions on people they met dozens of time.
